I don't get it. They are going to add a floor to a roof and it will (according to the article) be visible from the street???? It doesn't make sense.
Instead of an inane advert, maybe the EN could have included a diagram with this article?

glass roof on council buildings would be good then we could all see what the ell they were up to all day!
Feet up and coffee in hand seems to be the order for many - as they try to engage their brain!
Nice to see Old Waverley getting a face lift as it a nice hotel.

And both need to stop being so tedious and banal.

That was a rather 'same to you with knobs on' sort of comment, about what we expect now.
It seems that most of yours are computer generated from a limited phrase and ideas bank.

"The 103-bedroom hotel, being planned by the Deramore Property Group, would use the "glass treatment", similar to the look of the Festival Theatre, to protect the historic building..."
Appalling way to treat a historic building though! Protect? Seems to me it's idiotic ideas like this Embra needs protecting from!

"There will some queues methinks for the telescope on the castle rampants"
Waspy didn't you mean 'ramparts' or is 'rampants' some kind of Freudian pun?
You can bet Buttress will be at the head of any queue as she has a thing about telescopes so watch your comments.

Absolutely, Planning/Building Control have far too much power in Scotland and are badly needing to be put in their place with their powers considerably reduced.
As a matter of interest I heard only yesterday that Planning Authorities in England have been told to ease up on applications and to approve changes such as you mention, even conservatories and extensions are to be nodded through without hinderance. Other posters may be better able to confirm or otherwise this info?
Time for ordinary citizens/homeowners to organise a campaign of opposition to the present system.

Oh here goes Peewee again, same old tosh. Many folk actually like the fact there are restrictions on what can happen in places full of outstanding architecture, such as Edinburgh.
Ye there have been some new planning regulatations introduced in England and Wales, which allow, in certain circumstances, extensions without planning permission (althpough not without complying with building regs). Nasty plastic windows (which are not all the manufacturers claim them to be) on listed buildings and in conservation areas with an Article Four are still not allowed though.
The relaxing of some regulations seems to be ill-considered and not well thought through, and there are many who won't be happy when neighbours choose to exercise these rights.

I have a distinct impression that you are no supporter of freedom of choice (or indeed probably not of freedom in any shape or form).
Someone buys property, they own it. In my view (and that of others) owners should be allowed much more freedom to develope their properties as they see fit.
Sorry, but I see those who are object to neighbours making changes to their properties as mere snobs .

Snobs? So - you think that planning should be an unrestricted free for all?
How - er - interesting.
I look forward then to one of your neighbours building an inch from your window, blocking all your light.
