A WOMAN has been seriously injured after being gunned down in an office at a Glasgow shopping centre.
Police say they are treating the attack on the 47-year-old financial advisor as attempted murder.
The woman is currently being treated in hospital, where her condition is described as "serious."
Officers are appealing for information about th
e incident, which took place at the Chinatown shopping centre, in New City Road, at around 2pm yesterday.
A police cordon remained in place at the entrance to the centre today, while officers searched through patches of grass next to the centre and in drains.
Shocked members of the public and local shopkeepers looked on as the police worked.
Andrew Tagg, 24, who works in the Golden Trawler fishmonger in a row of shops next to Chinatown, told how he was passing through the centre just after the shooting.
He got a brief look at the victim, who he believes was working in a shop selling mortgages, he said.
"I just went in there to get something and then a paramedic called me over to help clear the area so the ambulance could get all their equipment in," Mr Tagg said.
"I could see a woman stretched out on a chair. I thought she had just had a heart attack or something, but someone else told me later she was covered in blood."
He went on: "We sometimes get trouble around here. There have been gang battles with people being stabbed.
"But there's not normally something so blatant as that during the day."
Detective Inspector John Mellon, who is leading the investigation, said it appeared the injured woman had been deliberately targeted.
He said: "I would urge anyone who may have seen a person or persons acting suspiciously in New City Street around the time of the incident to come forward.
"The surrounding area would have been busy with both pedestrians and motorists and we are keen to speak to anyone who may be able to assist us with our enquiry.
"I would ask any witnesses or anyone who thinks they may have information regarding this incident to contact police or Crimestoppers."
Officers are keen to speak to a man in connection with the incident.
He is described as white, in his 40s and of medium build.
He is unshaven with red/auburn stubble and a Scottish accent. He was wearing a brown bomber jacket and a baseball cap.
