THIEVES made off with a £40,000 BMW after reaching through the letterbox of a house to steal the keys.
The black BMW Z4M was stolen from a driveway in Straiton, Midlothian, in the early hours of Wednesday.

Police believe the car may have been targeted and followed to the address from where it was stolen.

A police spokesman said: "We urge the public to be extra vigilant with regards to where they keep their car keys within their home.

"Most people tend to place the keys in close proximity to the entry doors of their homes and this obviously makes them readily accessible to thieves."

I hope that the thief has bought a Lottery ticket, because he must be the luckiest thief in the world!

I can't imagine what the odds are of a car thief deciding to steal such an expensive car from a drive in Straiton (where car theft is very rare) and then, when they peek into the letter box of the house, the car keys are hanging within their reach!

Looks as tho a BMW owner would be more mindfull of hanging car keys out of reach and using some anti-theft devise. Strange that.
