STUDENT debt in Scotland has risen to more than £2 billion, according to new statistics.
Despite an SNP election vow to ditch student debt, borrowing increased by 8 per cent to £212.8m in 2007-8 said the Student Loans Company.

Claire Baker, a spokesman for Labour, described the figures as "damning".

At the end of the last financial year there were 370,000 borrowers with nearly three-quarters in the process of being repaid.

The average outstanding balance, which includes people still studying, is £5,550.

But the figures do not include the additional loans taken out to cover graduate endowments after the scheme was scrapped.

Labour are the reason why myself and thousands of others are in debt. The public school freaks that make up Labour's elite all got free further education. Are they making the plebes pay for their priveleged upbringing?
