A SCOT and his half-sister have appeared on television in the United States to defend their incestuous relationship.
Nick Cameron and Danielle Heaney appeared in front of millions of viewers on the Good Morning America programme. They kissed on air and insisted they would continue their love affair, despite the outcry in the UK.

The couple appeared at Kirkcaldy
Sheriff Court in January and admitted committing incest at Danielle's home in Glenrothes, Fife. They were put on probation and warned they would jail if they have sex again.

But they are now planning a move to France, where they can live legally as a couple.

"I think it would be lovely to grow old together," Cameron, 28, told viewers. "There is a consistent and necessary need to be close to each other physically, to actually feel each other close."

Cameron was put into foster care when he was a toddler. Heaney was raised by their birth mother. Two years ago, they met at a family reunion.

They say they are automatically attracted because they were separated as children. "I think the first time I saw Danielle, I found her very attractive," Cameron said. "But I also thought, 'Hang on a second, this is your sister you're talking about'."

At the time, Heaney was married, and she broached the subject with her husband, with whom she has a daughter. She told the TV show: "I said I could grow to love Nick very easily. And, funnily enough, he said, 'Hopefully, just as a brother?' And I said, 'Of course!'"

But the couple told how they grew closer and it eventually developed into a sexual relationship.

Heaney 22, said: "I still feel that I've found my soul mate, and I'm not letting him go for anything."

Cameron told viewers he thought their mother would disown them for the rest of their lives.

The way society is going, people will be marrying their half brothers and sisters all the time without knowing it in years to come. By the time that single mum (we'll call her Sarah) has had her 8th child by her 7th partner and all of her ex partners have sired children with all of their girlfriends, who have had 8 kids with their 7 ex partners, everyone will be their sisters uncle or their aunts grandson. But getting back to willful incest...don't Danielle and Cameron know that it is possible to say no to yourself and accept that some relationships really are taboo. I guess self denial is an alien concept in todays world where young people think that they have the right to whatever they want, no matter who they hurt along the way.

"But they are now planning a move to France, where they can live legally as a couple."

Does this mean that incest is quite legal in France?

Incidentally, in Scotland it is illegal to marry your first cousin, but it is surprising how many people have done so. It's not illegal in England, but the English are a bit strange anyway.

2, I think you are wrong, maybe the opposite for England/Scotland. I have a very good friend nr Glasgow who married his cousin, their fathers were brothers. I am 100% certain about my friend and cousin/wife.

#3 You're right, I'm wrong. I've just checked. I probably thought that as it is considered taboo in this part of the world.

Guga - as you will know, the only thing that is 'taboo' in Scotland these days is traditional values, conservative common sense and any notion of right, wrong and the difference between the two .... or even daring to say so. Cheers from BC!

I went to school with Nico, trust me when I tell you he was always bloody odd. Didn't quite expect this from him though.

Phone up Loudoun Academy and ask if they still have Nico's video of Stars in Their Eyes. Hot Chocolate's "You Sexy Thing" if memory serves. You couldn't have scripted this.

A good friend of mine once told me "violence never solved anything; but a good kicking did." Seems apt in this situation.

No 1 Suzi - well said.

They really should have abstained and took a little responsibility in their relationship. Remaining brother and sister, and loving each other in this respect, would have meant they could remain with the love of their family. I can't quite understand this.

Anyway, seems to be a general downtrend in the way some people look at the idea of families and it is quite disconcerting when you think of the scenario Suzi laid out in thread 1.

Equally disturbing is how some people (like Woody Allen) think it is OK to marry a child who was in effect "his daughter" by relationship. I think that this is also 'incestuous'.

Family reunions - a great place to meet girls.

This pair need to be sectioned and put into forced therapy to stop this unhealthy attraction. Having sex with a half, step or foster-sister is bad enough ... but a full sister??

Catholics require a Papal Dispensation to marry cousins up to twice removed I think.

Although it is reported that brother-sister mariages occurred in Ancient Egypt, I think you'll find that was purely symbolic since the females carried the right to the throne and it was politic to remove the sister from the unwanted suitors who had an eye on taking over from the brother.

Then again ... as long as they don't have children ... is there any real harm being done? We might think it's wrong ... but who are we to judge when many of us don't know if our fathers (or mothers) are our real parents??

I think they are pretty stupid airing their private life and it aint going to do them no favours, but lets face it this is a pretty rare occurence, thankfully, hopefully they are not planning on having children, that at least, I believe, should be illegal...any offspring of their union would only suffer throughout their life and they do NOT have the right to allow that.

But hey, I do not believe we should reach the extremes that you find in China...ie forcing abortion on them...eh...what do you reckon?

Yane,

Being banned by Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court from "ever having sex again" would have really....how can I put it?...put a spring in their step.
As John Waters says "I'm glad I was raised a catholic because sex will always be... dirty."

Watch out...watch out...the "I'm so angry cos I've been rejected by the Freehootsman" troll is about...remarkably tenacious little creature...he must have suffered terribly being spurned by TSW eh?

#14 It is everyones right to have children. Do you think, having crossed the line in so many ways, that this couple will not insist upon their right to procreate too? My money is on the patter of tiny little 6 toed feet any time soon.
20

Suzi B,

07/05/2008 12:28:01
Oh God, I just realised what I did there. For any 6 toed person reading this, I am not suggesting that you are the offspring of an incestuous relationship. Apologies for hurt feelings!

#20 The woman has been sterilized. They can hump till their tormented hearts are content. Small mercies eh?

It's her child I feel sorry for; can you imagine the slaggings it will get at school?

Further to Suzi B at #1: (and pardon the bad translation please) "as the standard of morality gradually lowers, let him follow the decay of the national character, observing how at first it slowly sinks, then slips downward more and more rapidly, and finally begins to plunge into headlong ruin, until he reaches these days, in which we can bear neither our vices nor their remedies."

Titus Livius in 9 A.D., writing his history of Rome. Still appropriate today?

Can we assume by the comment from the our Romeo that his Mother would disown him, that he hasn't told the poor woman before appearing on mass television, and being reported in our own media? It's strange how people shouting loudest about their own rights, so often seem to completely disregard those of others.
