New chapter in story of city Boys' Brigade

FORMER members of a city boys' brigade are to write a book about the club to mark its 125th anniversary.
To celebrate the milestone, the club will produce the book to document the history of 1st Leith BB.

The Boys' Brigade was founded in October 1883 by Sir William Alexander Smith.

It is expected celebrations across the world will take place to mark the event, including several in Edinburgh.

The book will be titled The Story of the 1st Leith Company, The Boys' Brigade and will be unveiled at a reunion party on October 10 at the Leith BB memorial club on Ferry Road.

It is expected the book will also contain some old pictures of the club both in Leith and away at events. Spokesman for the Leith organisation Steve Mitchell said it would be the group's contribution to a wider memorial.

He said: "This book and re-union are in celebration of this year's 125th anniversary of the founding of the Boys' Brigade.

"Some events have already been staged across the world."

I had just joined the BB's as an anchor boy at the time of the 100th anniversary in 1983. Not been involved with them for many years, but delighted to read that they are still going strong.

was a member of the humble 1st from anchor boy to comapny section

some of the best laughs of my life were at bb camp

i'd recommend any parent to get their boys into the bb's

any chance of a link to the writers of this book?

The 1st Leith BB Company's Church was at the top of the street I used to live in Prince Regent Street, I was a Member of the 9th Leith on Ferry Road St Nicholas Church (which has been pulled down now) but I do remember the 1st Leith was the largest Company in the Leith Battalion in these days, it's a pity the young people of today do not know what they are missing.
