Muslim police group to tackle anti-Islam prejudices

A MUSLIM Police Association is to be established in Scotland, it was revealed yesterday.
The group, headed by Strathclyde Police, will aim to encourage recruitment and retention among Muslims, improve understanding of the faith and tackle "Islamophobia".

PC Amar Shakoor, who was Scotland's first Muslim police officer, is supporting the scheme.

He said: "

In the past few years, there has been some negativity about Islam affecting the Muslim communities.

"We want to highlight some of the positive things Islam can provide to communities and not just the police services."

Strathclyde Police chief constable Steve House also backs the plan, which he hopes will persuade more Muslims to see the police as a career option.

"These are officers who are positive about the police force as a career and want to use their association to reach out to Muslims," he said.

Bashir Maan, convener of the Muslim Council of Scotland, said: "The community probably has not as much trust in Muslims as they used to, and if somebody has less trust in a police officer, that is a very serious matter."

These foreigners invade our country because their own aint good enough for them
They then do their utmost to change our country to the status of the one they have just left.

They should go back to theoir own land and leave us alone.
We would be quite happy for them to do so.

Perhaps one of these PC lot would explain to me why there is a official body called the Association of BLACK Police Officers
You can bet your life they would be up in arms if you tried to create ann Association of WHITE Police Officers.

You're right on all counts.

Why should the indigenous population be encouraged or inveigled into embracing an alien cult in their own land? All my life I've had choices in this respect and I will never embrace any further dubious inroads into my native Scots culture. Too much has already been conceded to these people. They are happy to take whatever concessions are liberally handed out but give back nothing of tangible worth. Quite the reverse. This is a Europe-wide phenomenon, incidentally.

I've never been aware of evangelical religious factions in the (UK or anywhere else) police or any other public services which seek to promote their blind belief to the disregard of the society in which they live. This is dangerous.

I personally don't want to "understand" the Muslim faith. I have no need to as it is not in any way part of the culture into which I was born and brought up with. If I want to know I will find out in my own time and in my own way. I disregarded Christian religion at an early age, and do not require to be officially made "aware" of the workings on any other, especally by a faction (exclusive by its very nature) ostensibly validated by a police uniform.

"Islamophobia"? They have brought that upon themselves via the atrocities known to one and all, perpetrated by deluded persons encouraged by raving nutters permitted to live and preach hatred in the UK courtesy of idiots such as dud politicians, immigration types, goodie-two-shoes PC groups, and worst of all, judges.

A Muslim Police Association in Scotland? I despair.

#1 Ard Righ. Totally agree. It should be a case of "When in Rome, do as the Romans".

Try having a dram and preaching Christianity in Saudi Arabia. After you've been lashed a couple of hundred times, you'll be deported.

I'm all for having an Association of White Police Officers, though all the members would probably end up in court for racism.

The Scots are among the most accomodating people in the World, and tend to get on with most or all people irrespective of race or colour. We don't need terms like 'Islamaphobia' bandied about. We have our ways, and our ways are not racist. If Muslims or any other people from the wide world want to settle in Scotland, let them talk to us, let them integrate, let them learn 'OUR' ways, and we will surely get on.

There is more muslims in Scotland than Scots in the muslim world because Scotland is a responsible first world nation in which people can prosper. This came about because our ancestors like most throughout Europe were committed to advancing and creating a better life for all. But the muslim world adopted a different approach, hence why today their nations are poerty ridden sh!t holes.
It was said by a poster earlier that he would be shot, murdered or kidnapped if he wore a kilt and had a dram in most muslim nations. And why? Becuase in muslim states it's their way or no way. Therefore, in Scotland it should be our way or no way.
What these muslim police officers need to do is get among the muslim communities and flush out the fundamentalists. Once that is done, we will be on the road to progress.
Muslim people who live in Scotland need to be Scottish first and muslim second, not the other way around.

To some of the previous posters who want "them" to go back where they come from, try to remember that Islam is a not a race but a religion. Most minority members of Police Forces in Scotland are British or more specifically Scottish so let's stop bashing those on the race issue.
However, all police officers of whatever gender, orientation, race and belief are represented by the Scottish Police Federation through statute and I fail to see the need for various self interest groups who divert valuable attention from real policing and community issues to single interest membership issues. Inevitably, self report studies by a publicly funded academic will no doubt support whatever claim they may care to make. Among these groups are BAWP, Gay Police Association, Christian Police Association, Association of Black Police Officers etc. etc.. Where will it all end? The Association for Ginger Haired, left handed, Nail Biting Misandrist Police Officers?
Time to call a halt to these internal "industries" who continue to divert yet more officers from front line duties to meetings, groups and seminars and further dilute the service to ALL members of the public. The Police Federation is your representative body, funded and supported by government and statute in pay, negotiations, conditions and discipline.

There is also an organisation called SEMPER which represents racial minorities in the POlice. The problem with all these minority issues is that when it becomes based solely on religion like this proposal, it begins to polarise people even more. For example, the Chair of SEMPER is a Sikh officer who is obviously alienated from this new body. Add to that Hindu, Jew, Christian, dare I add Scotland's eternal battle between Protestant and Catholic, and Chief Constable South is naive in the extreme to believe that this will bring understanding and integration. It will only breed suspicion and resentment amongst his own officers. I wonder if he will be so accomodating with Freemasons or Knights of Columba or Eastern Star? No, I thought not.
