MISS Scotland Nieve Jennings dons appropriate attire to launch the first ever national Tartan Day celebrations at Holyrood.
The week of events across the country will lead up to the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Arbroath, on April 6, 1320. Tartan Day began in Canada and the US as a rival to St Patrick's Day, and was first held in Scotland by Angus Council in 2004.

This year's inaugural national event was launched in the Capital yesterday.

#1 - No offence, Daft Old Git, but many born and bred Edinburgh locals would look at you strangely for pronouncing it as in Holy and not Holly. I'm from Edinburgh, my Mum and Dad are from Edinburgh, my extended families on both sides are from Edinburgh, even my 90 year old Gran (older that you?) is from Edinburgh, and we've never referred to it as Holy, but always Holly. It's not a new "media" affliction but a genuinely local way of saying it, which actually predominates amongst Edinburgh locals.

And besides, there are plenty places in Scotland where you don't pronounce the place phonetically, like Milgavie. Also, where Scottish Kings crowned on a small baked dough ball? Or where they crowned at Scone?

The lassies i used to know never looked like her, and they wore a lot more tartan that that. Do you think the grannies of scotland would were such a number to play golf in?

As a man sure it looks good. But, really does everything have to be brought down to the lowest common denominator "SEX". I get just a little sick of it. Sell me a can because the car is nice looking and has good gas mileage. Don't stick some floppy young female behind
the wheel and blow her hair around with a fan, hoping that I won't notice it only get 12 miles to the gallon on Sundays. They want to distract us with sex for everything from music to toothpaste. They can also take the feminine hygene products off TV. How damned disgusting. The MacLeod colors are very nice and she is a handsome lass to show them off.
No I'm not a nut case but don't you get a little tired of being treated like a simpleton by these advertising
types.

There might have been a few heart attacks if she'd turned up wearing that wee kilt at the Declaration of Arbroath which might then have gone "Phwoar - whit a stoater".
