Promises, promises, promises.
Will believe it when the 'Scottish Government' comes up with the cash.

It doesn't surprise me in the least, but I do remember when the NHS sent a lovely glossy leaflet out to Edinburgh households explaining the plans for the new RIE at Little France, and one of the "your questions answered" type things was about whether the Sick Kids would be impacted by the move because it took an acute hospital away from nearby. The answer was that for x, y and z reasons there was no impact and the Sick Kids would be fine where it was.
Roll on a few years and we get another consultation exercise about relocating the Sick Kids and, surprise surprise, one of the reasons given was to bring it closer to an acute hospital facility!
There has been an inevitability about this from the very first thoughts about moving the RIE, and yet Lothian NHS has managed to persuade us of two completely opposing arguments over that time frame.

Open in 5 years? Unlikely, though it seems NHS Lothian like a challenge. To get the ScotGov to agree to a publicly funded new-build hospital is quite a feat. Perhaps they can get the tram line out there as well!

The article doesn't say that. The adult services being at Little France are not the (stated) reason for the move, only the reason for its proposed new location.
In fact, on preview, the article doesn't say anything; it has disappeared.

#4 I know the article doesn't say that - it was the consultation exercise (a good couple of years ago now) that said that. The article simply stirred a memory.

As it won't be PFI that means the parking will be free and so it should be.

#7 It may well be impractical, for the same reason that free parking at RIE was impractical - it would just be used by commuters as another park and ride.
I suspect instead that there will be a small charge, like the Western used to have, to deter misuse. And I'm sure the small charge will be back at the Western soon too, when they discover how impractical it is to have unrestricted all-day parking.

It will be sad to see the Sick Kids moved away from its old home at Sciennes. But a new hospital would be a boon both for staff, patients and their families.
I don't really hold with moving hospitals out of town as they did with the Royal, there is a good reason for having centrally located healthcare facilities, just ask anyone who has to visit these out of town facilities. In Livingston, after waiting for many years, we got our hospital and then they tried to take it away from us. The cause for keeping it has been won so far, but things could change so always be on your toes, I say.
