THE Scottish Government is being urged to order a national review of services to support elderly people living alone, following the case of an Edinburgh pensioner who lay dead for five years before her body was discovered.
Isabella Purves was found in her flat in Rodney Street, Canonmills, on 2 July last year. Police officers were forced to break down her front door and push their way through years of unopened mail.

Now Tory MSP Nanette Milne has written to health secretary Nicola Sturgeon calling for a national review of services to support elderly folk living alone.

She said: "The case of Isabella Purves raised questions as to what help our society provides to support elderly residents living alone."

Where I live there is a service, that stands by 24 hours a day. I have a red button on a string around my neck, and if I feel ill I press the button, and an intercom which has been established in my home is immediately connected to the emergency unit, and I am asked right away what the matter is. when I speak they will hear my situation, and they are able to tell by the sound of my voice if I am in a crisis. And an ambulance will be on its way ASAP.
Is this available in Scotland....I pay 8 pounds a month for the service
