Published Date: 21 January 2008
CLIMATE change protestors today chained themselves to the doors of a private jet company at Edinburgh Airport.
Activists for Plane Stupid Scotland staged their protest at Greer Aviation this morning.

One of the campaigners, Lucy Mason, said they aimed to stop people boarding private jets.

She said: "It is not our intention to single out Greer Aviation as a company, but to make a wider point to highlight the fact that private jet use is incompatible with our duties to protect the planet from climate change."

A spokesman for airport operator BAA said: "There has been no disruption to any of our passengers either private or public and there has been no disruption to any flights."

So today is Monday. That gives them today to protest, tuesday and wednesday to recover from their exertion, and thursday to pick up their giro.

Unwashed eco 'warriors' really get my goat.

Must be terrible to have no meaning or purpose in life.

These numpties are just "Plain Stupid Scots" who should get a life.

ONce they go back to daddy and mummy's lavish home and lounge about doing nothing whatsoever perhaps they can ponder on the utter vacuousness of their lives.

If these otherwise unemployable t%sser$ want to do something constructive about "cleaning up the planet" they should be away examining ways to store waste tyres instead of leaving them in large piles and forming a fire risk, like in the other article, rather than trying to stop ordinary working people going about their legitimate business. Pretentious and self indulgent nonsense.

bunch of sad sad sad people. Arrest them for breech of the peace and then take them to the JOB CENTRE where they can find a JOB and GET MONEY FOR WORKING instead of planning these pointless and meaningless "demos"

Who ARE you people writing these comments? no really, what the hell?....... seriously.... No meaning, vacuous, deluded? I guess I could call you all prejudiced and anal for posting such petty and totally meaningless comments but I've never met any of you so I wouldn't be so presumptuous. Well all I can say is that, having all come home and warmed up with a cup of tea you've given us all a chuckle. If by the way you happen to be interested in the irrefutable evidence of the climate science on which our argument is based check out the article on indymedia (https://publish.indymedia.org.uk/en/regions/scotland/2008/01/389840.html?c=on#c188052)
Also, check out www.planestupid.com

or be predictable if you like and post another inane comment. Whatever makes you feel fulfilled for the day i guess. Love and respect, the great unwashed crusty trustafarian loser dole fiend ;)

Poor Lucy said that her bunch of ragamuffins aimed to stop people boarding jets. In this, they singularly failed according to the airport operator.
Judging by the shots on their web site I trust the authorities are examining today's knockabout with a view to possible prosecutions.

Plane Stupid are just that Stupid and pathetic!
They are living in a world where they think that the cause of climate change is man made and ignore the facts that climate does change as a matter of mother nature. Its pretentious to say the least to beleive mankind is responsible.
Perhaps if they were really concerned, they should hike (they could fly) to the likes of India, China or even Russia and see how far they get with there protests. These are the idiots that want African farmers to stop exporting to Europe and remain poor

'petty and meaningless comments', as opposed to petty and meaningless actions, such as chaining your fetid bodies to gates? What good is that gonna do?

Find a purpose in life mate. Don't waste your days away on propaganda and bulls@'t.

#10 I have checked out your Planestupid wbsite and frankly its juvenile. You will never gain credibility by mounting childish pranks like you exhibited at Edinburgh Airport.
Can I ask you, how are you insured for clambering all over someone else's building and taking risks doing that? Who foots the bill if one of your activisits falls off the roof and is injured or worse, killed? Don't say it would never happen.

It's a pity they didn't chain themselves to the aircraft itself. I think they would have found themselves a little short of breath at 40,000 feet, and a trifle cold as well.

Let's put it this way, I don't think they would have done it again.

#17 LOL and very true!

These people have simply nothing else to do with themselves but needlessly disrupt the lives of others.

Once they realise that global warming is nothing more than mother earth going through yet another climate cycle the better off we will all be.

At the end of the day, what have these clowns achieved? Have people stopped flying - no Has public opinion swayed in their favour as a result of their antics - judging by the posts here, no. Have they wasted police resources supervising their childish game - yes. Have they diverted airport security staff away from other duties at a time of heightened terrorist threats - yes. And these people want to be taken seriously? Just to spite them i'm gonna crank up the washing machine to 40 degrees, turn up the central heating and buy a 4 x 4 to go the end of the street, not to mention fly everywhere.

These useless morons need to grow up if they want their propaganda to be even remotely believeable.

I understand that 10 were arrested and that not a single passenger was prevented from boarding an aircraft.
I dare say the airport-based police unit will have given them a good talking to, a good wash and then sent them and their tambourines packing for the long walk home in the rain.

perhaps you'd like to discuss the actual issue instead of making personal insults (EVERY single comment here is a personal jab and not one deals with the science or politics of the issue).

So, read this very basic new scientist article, engage your brain, open your mind and make your own minds up. don't just take my word for it. If your interested further then read just one book. 'Six degrees' by Mark Lynas is an up to date synopsis of peer reviewed science that shows not only that human induced climate change is happening ut the severity of the problem faced by humanity and the planet. Make no mistake. this is the biggest thing our species has ever had to deal with and if your gut reaction is to denounce that comment then I ask you again to read the book and thus denounce the thousands of professional scientists whose work it draws upon. We have difficult choices ahead of us. whether or not you agree with direct action is a side issue. All of us, regardless of politics will have our lives affected by the effects of climate change over the decades to come and we must all challenge some of our most deepfelt convictions if we are all to save ourselves and our world. so if i end up deciding that direct action is not a viable way of changing our fate then i'll do something else. but make no mistake we must do something and we must start somewhere. Get thinking and get busy in whatever way makes sense to you.

There is a good expression that says "Evil will prevail while good men do nothing" So take your negative attitudes and keep them as you sit your lardarses down in your overheated houses or overpowered cars and dont whinge when your house washes away in floods or your kids are killed in freak storms or any of the other consequences that are a result of global warming. Unlike you or myself, they try to make a difference. You sad biggots

While I am - as usual - enjoying the cerebral nature of the debate on this article, I'd like to make a point without unjustifiably insulting anyone here.

There are certainly people who believe the information they have on climate change. Many of those people are concerned-enough (and have the time on their hands) to actually get of their bums and do something - however misguided that 'something' might seem to others.

There are other people who, in reviewing the 'gospel' of climate change, remember that there was a time when up-to-date, peer-reviewed research on old ladies with black cats certainly being witches was all the rage. This group of people tends to get annoyed when they see the first group indulging in behaviour that - far from advancing any 'cause' - is seen as stupid and wilfully disruptive of other peoples' lives.

Now, having said all that I'll confess to being a part of the latter group but not entirely dismissive of the potential of the former. By all means, act on your beliefs. Perhaps you could be more thoughtful in your choice of actions but, do act.

My motive in all of this? Simply this: By encouraging any politically-motivated group to act then perhaps more such groups will act and effect change in other areas of our lives. It sure beats doing nothing but sitting around and moaning to The Scotsman.

#28 - give me solid proof - before im dead, that all this will actually happen...... over heated house? Nope - dont use much power - sorry - oh and car? nope, LPG car - bio fuel (and even then, foot power is better). See #28 - you really need to use the brain you MIGHT have in your very empty head befor eyou start runing about shouting "the world is about to end"

Did you belive that the world would stop at the millenium and stock up on food like alot of the sad people did, just to find out that it was just another day?

I can't believe my eyes, the ridiculous ramblings of the majority of people on here. To be honest I didn't know that people with these prehistoric, uneducated, mindlessly petty viewpoints could even work a keyboard, never mind string together a sentence or two. If you want to make some comments on the issue of climate change at least do a little bit of research. Instead of slagging off the people who are making an effort to bring the subject into debate, using any ways that they possibly can. If you actually read into the subject, and not from The Sun or any other tabloid trash which only exists to fuel your stupid, stupid daily gossip, then you may have more understanding of the seriousness of the issue and get off your pathetic uneducated high horse's and realise why people are putting themselves in danger just in the hope of getting the message across in more inventive ways. And all these comments about the protesters getting a job/a wash, blah blah.. I bet you a million pounds that everyone involved in this protest is getting an education, and doing a hell of a lot more with their lives than the group of intellectually challenged morons who spend their time ranting about issues they obviously don't understand on a news website. Idiots.

Chairman Gordon, did you complain about my post at #40, whats wrong too close to the bone? Well here it is again.
Andrew, Maurice and Emmeie, hang in there folks, totally in agreement with you both. However when you have d!ckheads like Chairman Gordon going around you might as well speak to the wall. Really if brains were taxable, these numbskulls would get a rebate.
Oh and Chairman Gordon, I hardly think a volcano is the cause of the melting ice sheets, maybe locally buts that’s all.
As for you 1 Cynicaltalk, what is your purpose in life, apart from when your not a greedy self-centered arrogant pr!ck, Do you mast@rbate at night thinking of all that money you have in the bank, or is it because you drive a fast sportscar and that makes up for your small d!ck.?
I believe there is such a thing as GW, all I can do is read as much as I can on the subject, and trust the scientists. Why do you all love what technologies and science can do for you in the way of a modern 21st living. But if the same scientists come up with something bad, which means we all have to look at the way we lead our lives, you all scream it down!

It’s not just CO2 we have to cut down on, but the RATE in which we consume natural resources. The US goes through something like 292 million gallons of petrol A DAY!!! Where did I get this gemstone of info, well not like you Chairman Gordon, in the third page of the Sunday Sport, but that well known magazine: the National Geographic, or is that too left wing for you?
Also what about toxic pollution going into the air, seas, and soils. What about destruction of the rainforests, destruction of the world’s fish stocks, world human population, all these issues are of huge importance, and all you people can do is slag off people who try and take it to the medias attention.
Human greed is destroying this world, some of us are trying to reverse the damage.

I was dubious about posting this simply because I think while people on this forum claim that they are simply unconvinved about climate change based on a rational analysis of the evidence, i think the truth is that the reality is terrifying, and it's easier to pretend it's not happening. Still, it can't hurt to try:

Here is your scientific consensus:

http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/full/306/5702/1686

A guide to facts and fictions about climate change. - The Royal Society (this is a downloadable document produced by the Royal Society, you will find it at footnote 9 on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_warming)

If you are really interested in finding out more, the footnotes on the wikipedia page links to numerous other documents showing the scientific consensus on this issue. Moreover, the further reading page offers some good opportunities to expand understanding.

Just in closing. Climate Change represents the greatest issue we face as a global community. These are not my words, but those of Tony Blair, who was speaking for the UK government (because guess what! the environment is not a fringe issue dumbass!). Things are going to radically change, and everyone is going to have to be part of the solution or the solution will simply not emerge. If you are not politically motivated to play dumb, please look at the links above and start organizing.

(Tony Blair's comments can be found here: http://www.number10.gov.uk/output/page10460.asp)
