I have always understood that the Model T had a gravity feed gas tank under the seat and that to go up a hill, drivers had to back up!
Did he back up the hill?
Also, the 1928 picture does not appear to be a Model T

pdp1134- the answere to your is yes- Alexander had to reverse.
Why was this not in the piece?
My father knew of this event from Alexander Garare staff and a booklet-circa 1920/30s
