ORGANISERS of a city food festival have launched a culinary competition to find a star chef of the future.
The Taste of Spain, which runs during the Edinburgh Festival, has teamed up with a leading hotel chain and MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife, John Park, to offer an apprenticeship to an aspiring cook.

The winner will have the opportunity of working fo
r international hotel group Barceló at the Carlton Hotel on North Bridge.

Following the apprenticeship, the successful applicant will be offered a job with the company.

The Taste of Spain will be a celebration of regional foods from around the Iberian peninsula.

Up to 100,000 people are expect to attend the festival over the ten-day period which will feature live entertainment, restaurants, bar, exhibitions, educational classes for adults and children and competitions.

The event, which takes place at Edinburgh Academicals' playing fields in Stockbridge, runs until August 10.

Organisers say they want to leave a "lasting legacy" for Edinburgh by investing in the future.

A judging panel including Mr Henderson – the butler from children's TV show Evacuation Manor House – will announce the winner of August 10.

Entrants must be aged between 16 and 19 and should send their name, address, phone number along with a few sentences saying why they want to win the apprenticeship to jenny.duncan@ scottish.parliament.uk.

Alternatively, write to M2.20, the Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh. The closing date to enter is next Monday.
