Cameras to be in court for result of Luke Mitchell appeal

THE result of the Luke Mitchell appeal this week will be broadcast on television and the internet, the Scottish Courts Service has confirmed.
BBC cameras will be allowed into the Court of Appeal in Edinburgh on Friday, when three judges will decide whether the teenager's conviction for the murder of 14-year-old Jodi Jones will be allowed to stand.
Last week, cameras were allowed into court for the outcome of the appeal by Nat Fraser, who was convicted of murdering his wife, Arlene, ten years ago. The rare move was regarded as a success by senior court officials, paving the way for more TV and internet coverage of court proceedings in Scotland.
A spokeswoman for the Scottish Courts Service said: "Broadcasting the proceedings meant lots of people were able to see what happened in court."
The long-awaited Mitchell appeal verdict will be announced by Scotland's most senior judge, Lord Hamilton, along with Lord Osborne and Lord Kingarth.
