THE Scottish Government is under pressure to "see sense" and ban the use of snares.
TV star and animal rights campaigner Annette Crosbie, who starred in the BBC sitcom One Foot In The Grave, branded snares as "cruel, archaic devices".
The actress spoke out ahead of a statement on the issue by Environment Minister Mike Russell to the Scottish Parliament this week. It comes after the previous Scottish Government carried out a consultation on the use of the devices.
Crosbie is backing a campaign led by the League Against Cruel Sports and Advocates for Animals to have snaring banned. She said: "Horrendous injuries and painful deaths could be avoided if the Scottish Government chooses to implement the necessary legislation. Nothing but a complete ban on snares will end this suffering."
The Scottish Government said it will announce its position on Wednesday.
