122mph motorcyclist escapes ban

A SHERIFF has been criticised for letting a motorcyclist caught speeding at 122mph keep his licence.
The decision by temporary sheriff David Burns, QC, not to ban Neil Breslin, 28, of Glenrothes, Fife, was branded "ludicrous" yesterday.
Breslin was clocked as he was pursued by police on the southbound carriageway of the M90 motorway on 25 July last year. But Mr Burns decided to impose only six penalty points and a fine of £400 at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.
Last night, Margaret Dekker, of the Scottish Campaign against Irresponsible Driving, said: "This is an absolutely ludicrous decision.
"The number of fatalities among motorcyclists is not coming down at all.
The sheriff should have imposed the maximum sentence to send out a warning to others."
