Super petrol is fuel's gold

SO-CALLED "super fuels" do little to help motorists, according to test results out today.
The fuels do not save drivers money, do not improve a car's performance and do not help the environment, Which? Car said.

The group tested three super fuels – Shell V-Power, Tesco Super Unleaded and BP Ultimate Diesel – against standard fuels.

Now tell us something we don't know.

You may get very slightly improved MPG by using premium grades, but that is more than compensated for by the increased cost per litre. The reason? Higher calorific value.

Otherwise, provided you use fuel with an octane rating of at least the rating specified by the manufacturer, you won't damage your engine. Most cars nowadays are designed to run on 95 RON. I suspect that the only modern cars that would demand the premium grade would be supercars of the Ferarri, Lamborghini, Bugatti ilk. Even a supercharged Jaguar runs on 95 RON these days.

Take your foot off the accelerator, drive slower
saves petrol
saves wear and tear on the engine and brakes
reduces accidents and their consequences.
makes the roads and pavements safer for all
reduces oil imports
reduces the nations dependance on nations that do not like us.

in fact better all round
