Lehman to run bid for RBS arm

LEHMAN Brothers, the American investment bank, has been appointed by Allstate, the US financial major, to run its campaign to try and win the £6 billion auction for Royal Bank of Scotland's insurance business.
RBS has put the likes of Direct Line and Churchill up for sale, alongside its recently £12bn shareholder rights issue, to help recapitalise its balance sheet.

Other bidders in the frame are Allianze of Germany, Travelers of the US and Zurich, the Swiss group.
