Pope honours Bush with welcome at Vatican gardens

POPE Benedict gave President George Bush an unprecedented welcome in the tranquillity of the Vatican gardens yesterday, before the US president resumed his campaign to rally European support for sanctions against Iran.
Under tight security, Bush was driven from the bustle of Rome into the idyllic setting. As birds chirped, the two entered a restored medieval tower and held 30 minutes of private talks.

"Such an honour, such an honour," Bush told the pope. After the meeting in the tower, they stood on a terrace to take in the view of 108 acres of manicured gardens, buildings, ancient walls and St Peter's Basilica that make up Vatican City.

Mr Bush asked: "How big is it?" A Vatican aide responded: "Not quite as big as Texas." Bush then said: "Yes but more important ... this is spectacular."

The talks in the tower, walk in the gardens and a performance by the Sistine Choir as the two sat on wooden lawn chairs were a break with normal protocol.

It was the first time a meeting with a head of state at the Vatican was not held in the pope's private study and was meant to repay Bush for the White House lawn reception the pope got in April on his 81st birthday.

Well, you could at least have tried, now you're leaving it up to me, but I'll pass, and leave it up to #3.

Good morning. Where have you been. Chester is well and bravely enduring the past few weeks when the temperatures were +40 Celsius (including humidex) for a few days.

I had no idea your president was a "size queen".

If you are going to bring your homsexual slant to all the threads please remove the Canada location from your moniker.

Oh, for God's sake, lighten up!

#1 started it and I just innocently went where he was not going.

I will do or say antything to discredit that presidential numptie and liar.

By the way, gay marriages are legal in Canada whether you and your cohorts like it or not.

As for the "homosexual slant" that you attribute to me, this speaks volumes more about you than it does about me.

So, Edmond, "freddom of expression" and "democratic discussion" are still alive and well on this site.

#3 Edmond's comment,
Well you sure turned out to be an anti-climax, didn't you? I left the door wide open for you to jump all over that story, and instead you turned out to be a church lady. See if I'm going to waste a golden opportunity like that next time.

BTW Edmond,
I'm new to this forum, what past comments of mine would you be referring to?

You're ignorant comments about how the "Catholics" killed Jesus on another thread for starters. How do you explain Catholics while Jesus was still alive?

Hi Tim, how is everything? Glad to hear Chesters' good, so are my boys. You do have to feel sorry for all those posters out there who have obviously had thier sence of humor shot off in some war. I wonder if it hurt much?

Good afternoon, sir, to you and your "boys". I feel that your comment is the least inflammatory that could be posted at this point in time. Chester is well and bravely enduring the high humidity of today. Thank God we have our pets to keep us semi-sane.

Perhaps I was a"jerk" in a moment of intellectual tiredness and did not acknowledge that I was dealing with an unequal and defamatory poster.

But I will NOT engage in "jusuitical casuitsry" or "quibbling" of ANY kind with my intellectual inferiors who demonstrate it by their hocus-pocus mumblings and religious prejudices.

As #11 Linus posted, we should not engage ourselves with those who are not men enough - or women enough - to be dispassionate and strictly fundamental in their assertions without this religious obfuscation and prejudice.

I sincerely feel that #13 Edmond is out of whatever depths s/he has descended to and should return to the "church lady" [NOT my words, by the way] milieu from which they evolved.

"You're not Jewish? That ain't your fault."

BTW. I am VERY HIGH Anglican - Anglo-Catholic or beyond.

I will not be lectured to and chastised by out-of-control "evangelistic" Catholics (with a capital "C")
