Pope goes to first base as he reaches out to the people in US

AFTER spending the first day of his US journey sharing a platform with President George Bush, Pope Benedict XVI will meet the people today.
He will preside over an open-air Mass at the new Washington Nationals baseball stadium, a gold curtain and crucifix providing the backdrop for the largest stage yet on his six-day US visit.

A crowd of 46,000 is expected, and the demand for tickets
was double the number available, organisers said. It is a setting his charismatic predecessor, John Paul II, would have adored. Benedict's substance is similar – it's his style and personality that sets him apart, observers say.

"He's not the great actor and performer that John Paul II was," said the Rev James Martin, editor of America, a Jesuit magazine. "But he's a brilliant theologian and a sterling preacher."

Before Benedict's arrival this week, polls showed most Americans knew little or nothing about him. Those who have watched him so far have found a German-born pontiff who speaks excellent English, appears vigorous for his 81 years, mostly prefers script to spontaneity and displays a keen sense of the critical issues facing his 65-million-member American flock.

One of the larger questions hanging over Benedict's first US trip as pontiff was whether and how he would address the clergy sex abuse scandal, which has claimed thousands of victims, cost the church more than £1 billion in court costs and settlements.

In an address to US bishops last night at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Benedict called the scandal a "deep shame".

He decried the "enormous pain" that communities have suffered from such "gravely immoral behaviour".

Its been a glorious festive time having the Holy Father
visit, they have been giving full TV coverage which is wonderful for those who cannot go. The music during his Mass this morning was angelic with representatives of many of the worlds cultures & races singing parts of one hymn. Then Placido Domingo gave a marvelous rendition of the "panicus Angelicus" (bread of the Angels) everyone broke into spontaneous applause! when he finished.A very
uplifting event!

So Herr Reverend Benny Ratzinger (lately of the Hitlerjugend) has been wowing them stateside.

Unfortunately it is NOT enough to describe the prediliction of predatory priests on young boys as "deep shame".

It has happened worldwide since time immemorial and it is time it was STAMPED OUT by Benny and his likes. Is it not time for Benny's so called church to start taking a pro-active role in ridding itself of these people AND the causes of their abnormalities.

But I suppose as long as the music is angelic and the singing of panis angelicus is marvellous then everything in the Catholic church is wonderful.

The US churches should have never allowed homosexual preists to join, that happened prior to Pope Benedict XVI.

I never said anything about homosexual priests. I was referring to paedophilic priests. It is a well established fact that most paedophiles are heterosexual regardless of whom they prey upon!
Personally I have no difficulty with priests who ARE gay. I am sure it beats trying to be celibate.

You must have choosen to be a homosexual then. Please explain to us without lieing why the preists almost ALWAYS prey on boys then. Most male paedophiles prey on little girls. And don't come up with some lame excuse.

You said "It is a well established fact that most paedophiles are heterosexual regardless of whom they prey upon"

A while ago I read of a study looking at the ratio of child abuse among homosexuals compared to heterosexuals. Contrary the common misconception that heterosexuals abuse more the study found that pedophilia is far more common among homosexuals.

It was demonstrated that the absolute number of heterosexual cases reflects the fact that heterosexual males outnumber homosexual males by approximately 36 to 1. Heterosexual child molestation cases outnumber homosexual cases by only 11 to 1, implying that pedophilia is more than three times more common among homosexuals.
Homosexuals, as a defined group, are consistently and disproportionately over represented in male child molestation cases when compared with heterosexuals, as a defined group.

English professor Karla Jay, Ph.D., and well-educated journalist Allen Young, both homosexual activists, conducted the first major survey on homosexuality in America in 1979. Their work is still cited in academic studies and involved over 5,000 homosexuals from all walks of life. Titled "The Gay Report," the study published data on underage sex, disease, gross promiscuity, suicidal tendencies and more.

The study documented that "23 percent of respondents admitted to having had sex with youths aged 13-15, while 19 percent felt positive about sexual activity within this age group."

CHILD MOLESTATION AND OTHER VIOLENCE

Many studies of child molestation have been carried out, and the results are both consistent and startling. Between 55-60% of statutory rape (child molestation) involves homosexuality (P. Cameron, Psych. Reports, 1985, 57:1227-36). A survey of white gays found that 65% admitted to having sex with boys 16 or younger, when they were 21 or older (A.P. Bell, Sexual Preference, 1981, 19).
Entire studies have been written on the large number of child molestation cases, done by homosexuals. In their magazines, gays admit that one of their objectives in doing this is to increase the number of homosexuals.

Some of these studies were about homosexual school teachers. It is known that they prey on the children.
Aside from passion, there are two special reasons why gays do this: (1) By sodomizing children, they increase the number who will grow up to be homosexuals. (2) Children have less diseases to transmit. NAMBLA (North American Man-Boy Love Association) has, as its goal, the removing of laws prohibiting gays from having sex with minors. In 1990, the age of consent for homosexual sex in Holland was lowered to 12!

The National Crime Survey reported that about 27% of rapes are homosexual. They have dramatically increased with the rise of the gay rights movement. This crime is twice as common in urban areas where gays congregate (C.W. Harlow, U.S. Dept. Justice, 1991, NCJ-126826).

A study of 518 mass murders in the U.S., from 1966 to 1983, revealed that 350 (68%) of the victims were killed by those who practiced homosexuality (P. Cameron, Midwestern Psych. Assn., 1983)
