THEY'RE trying to replace the book again. This time, it's with the Kindle, a hand-held electronic gadget produced by Amazon. With this, when a piece of music is mentioned in a novel, you can hear it. If a place is mentioned, you can see it. So much for the imagination. I expect when you read "imagination", you get a picture of a black hole.
All this jiggery-pokery sounds fandabbydosey, as the philosophers say, but when I think about it, I still get visions of a pound of mince. The web does not inspire. When I visited Amazon's website and typed the word "Kindle" in its search engine, all...
