UFOs have been spotted over Shropshire. Do not be alarmed. As far as we can gather, they come in peace. They know we are having trouble with our mortgages. They wish to help. They do not like to see us suffer. They can offer preferential rates of interest.

I understand, from a well advised source - ‘my friend down the pub’ that when these 'aliens' landed in Shropshire, their first uttering was - as we expected - 'take me to your Leader!'

Unfortunately this request to all those present, threw them into a right tizzy for a day or two as not one of them could come up with an acceptable answer, so, as one would expect, still on their guard, and somewhat suspicious, they immediately posed the question to the ‘alien’- 'From where did you obtain this highly Secretive and Confidential information that we possessed such a person with that title - we need to know, and now!'

As the ‘alien’ could see getting an answer to his simple request appeared to be hopeless and, in any case, probably was not 'Right Bovvered' over such a hapless situation, he turned on his heels and made his way back to his craft - and was gone - instantly! with a never to be forgotten ‘Whooooosh!’ - as they do, I believe!

However, it was reported in the Press that evening, that some bystander at the event, says they heard the 'Alien' muttering 'in English'- as he trundled up his gangplank, something about 'bloody dodgy discs’ his guards had found a few days ago! However this comment was ruled immediately as being untrue, by a Government a spokesman re-assuring us that the Governments security system on 'all' data under their supervision was totally safe!

The odds down the bookies (they are usually right!) on this latter point seemed to indicate otherwise!

Well, at least, true or not, that's what I heard from my friend 'down the Pub' - believe it or not, but I'm sure a story like that, well, it couldn't just be made up - could it?

When I a National Serviceman in the Raf I served on a bombing range on the Isle of Man in 1958. A strange object was sighted in the sky that was revolving and changing colour. Our navigator officer couldn't identify it and bravely roused the station commander from his bed around midnight, Group Captain was also mystified but he contacted the radar unit at Luce Bay who reported sight of the object but that it was too high to monitor. He than contacted RAF Valley who were also able to see the object and who then scrambled a Hunter to investigate. The Hunter pilot came over us in a few minutes and reported that he could see the object but that it was too high for him to reach so returned to base. By this time the object was being watched by three RAF units when it suddenly shot off across the Irish Sea and disappeared within seconds.
Mocking UFO sightings is too easy. The Air Ministry certainly took the incident very seriously but nobody came up with any answers. I remain very open minded about such sightings to this day and would never resort to the sort of sarcasm that is written in the above article.
