Published Date: 13 December 2006
AN AMERICAN student newspaper has apologised for publishing a satirical Christmas carol entitled O Come All Ye Black Folk that ridiculed black students and affirmative action policies.
The carol, published in Primary Source, which bills itself "the journal of conservative thought" at Tufts University, Massachusetts, called black people "boisterous" and proclaimed: "Born into the ghetto. O Jesus! We need you now to fill our racial quotas."

The newspaper issued the apology after student leaders discussed calls to reduce its funding.

O Come All Ye Black Folk
Boisterous yet Desirable
O come ye, O come ye to our University
Come and we will admit you,
Born in to oppression;
O come let us accept them,
O come let us accept them,
O come let us accept them,
Fifty-two black freshman.

O Sing, gospel choirs,
We will accept your children,
No matter what your grades are, F's, D's, or G's,
Give them all privileged status;
We will welcome all.
O come let us accept them,
O come let us accept them,
O come let us accept them,
Fifty-two black freshman.

All come! Blacks, we need you, Born into the ghetto.
O Jesus! We need you now to fill our racial quotas.
Descendants of Africa, with brown skin arriving:
O come let us accept them,
O come let us accept them,
O come let us accept them,
Fifty-two black freshman.

These students are frustrated that blacks applying for places in American universities are held to a lower standard than whites and Asians.

It's always entertaining to listen to the privileged class complaining about unequal treatment.

The black students, in a cycle of poverty, are generally from poor families with under-educated parents. They attand underfunded city school systems while their white counterparts, from educated families, attend private schools with excellent funding and facilities.

Then, when the universities try to break the ignorance/poverty cycle by giving additional consideration to the under-privileged blacks, the rich white kids from the prep schools whine that the white kids, the ones with all of the privieges and advantages, are victims of discrimination.

Nice.

Blacks need to chill and learn to laugh at themselves. Humor is healthy.

Blacks use more derogatory language than this when speaking of Whites or Asians or other Blacks. No one race or nationality is superior to any other. We're all breathing the same air.

The reason the Blacks complained is because the "black carol" hits too close to home. Wonder what the uproar would have been if the carol included the "n" word?

Affirmative Action (what the government is calling this fiasco) is very frustrating for a white student who has worked hard and earned all A's and B's, when he finds out that he didn't get a place at the University because that seat was taken by a black student with D's and F's on his report card. The University gets more money from the government for the black student, thus actively seeks them. It's the dumbing down of America. All students, regardless of race, should be competing equally. If you expect more from the black student, they will rise to the challenge. Instead, the government makes excuses for them and gives them special treatment. It's just not fair.

I have noticed that when people say things like "all students should be competing equally" that they never mean "your child should get adequate health care, a decent diet, and a quality primary and secondary education, just like mine."

Instead they mean "you arm your kid with the educational equivalent of a nightstick and I'll arm my kid with the educational equivalent of an Uzi and then they can have a fair fight."

Instead of talking about dumbing anyone down, we should be talking about smartening everyone up.

I can't believe you people are saying this, we have struggled and you think we "need to chill", please think about what your saying. First of all, not all African Americans are born into the ghetto. This song is tell people we are a stupid, and loud race. Who ever wrote this article must not know any African Americans because we are intellgent and respectable. Who is to say that this article doesn't hurt me because if you have ever been called hurtful name you could relate to me. This song is childish and the black race is put through hell.

3,6 I'd like to hear you spouting the same nonsense if you were personally effected by this reverse racism.

7 The song is offensive. I know that black people are very intelligent. That's why I get so ticked off about lowering the standards for anyone. It implies that blacks in America are given opportunities instead of earning them.
