TAX cuts for the poorest in society are expected to be unveiled in this month's Pre-Budget report.
The cuts are expected to total up to £15 billion and will see the 10p tax band rebate extended for another year.

With a looming recession, the government is keen to boost consumer confidence by leaving more in people's pockets.

Other moves could include increasing tax credits for low-income families and delaying a rise in petrol duty.

Another master stroke from Gordon Brown (economic saviour of the world).

He can do no wrong at the moment.

#2 Doofus T, pping from your post, Broon Pants couldn't save anything. We certainly have come to expect mater strokes from this master baiter. Most of these measures should have been in place ages ago and the 10p tax band should never have been touched. If he really wants to give the economy a boost, how about a 10p drop in fuel tax? Petrol in Japan, 60p a litre and no oil fields. Price in Scotland, >90p a litre and we are an oil producing country, nuts or whit?

2# Come off it Rufus, I support the union the same as you, but lets be honest here. Brown is a liability. £15 billion in tax cuts when Darling is talking about increasing borrowing. Our children will be paying for that one when they are old and grey. What worrys me is the possibility that after Glenrothes, Brown may try and bribe an election win and that would be a disaster. Union yes, but not with these corrupt idiots in charge.

He could, of course, simply bring back the 10p tax band and save all this pssing about with credit and such like.
Never happen of course as that is a simple logical step that reduces admin. costs !
Brown Darling.......Prudent Economic geniuses that we should all be thankful are running the show.

With the education system so poor up here and the school leavers so stupid scotland should be set for a huge set of tax cuts.

Borrowing money to pay for tax cuts is like borrowing off one credit card to pay the bill on another one. Borrowing is no more than deferred taxation.

Brown jobs just relies on people being so thick they take the offered prize and don't realise it's costing them just like consultants use to be attributed with the saying "give me your watch and I'll tell you the time". Some watch this one!

Unfortunately the unintelligent are still out there in droves otherwise he wouldn't have retained Glenrothes.

BIG EYE,

So at a time when the incoming tax revenues are going to drop by record levels the solution is to borrow even more and give it away it away in tax cuts so we can spend our way out a recession.

Thought this was how we created the recession in the first place!

Nobody thought of slashing back on the public sector?

Thought not!

Where has this story come from? Has the cabinet or parliament had an oppoptunity to discuss and analyse the merits of such proposed tax cuts or do we now have a system of Government by one man and his Darling assistant?
How many Labour members of Parliament find out their party's plans for the economy by reading about them at the same time as us , and in the same newspapers?
If this strategy continues we could save a bob or two by getting rid of a few hundred MP's
