NATIONAL sports agency sportscotland will begin the move from Edinburgh to a new temporary headquarters in Glasgow later this year.
The agency will eventually be based at the new National Indoor Arena and Velodrome in Glasgow's East End, due for completion in 2009-10.

But in the meantime it will relocate from its current base at the Gyle to the Templeton Business Centre, not far from the arena.

Sportscotland will take over the new accommodation in November 2008 and after fitting it out, a phased transfer is expected to be completed by April 2009.

Sportscotland said the temporary location had the benefit of being close to the permanent headquarters and allowing staff to experience the area.

But a spokeswoman said it was not yet known how many of the 145 staff employed at the Gyle would decide to make the move.

So the new palce isn't built

They don't know how many will transfer to Glasgow

How then did they work out how much office space to let?

How long is the lease and how much taxpayers money will be used up.

Commercial companies move in one full swoop, have the staff numbers counted and if some can't be @rsed with a small commute like thousands of others then they can go and get another job as I am sure thay are all exceptional candidates etc etc

What a clever decision, lets move an organisation from Edinburgh to Glasgow, spend a fortune on relocation costs and the redundancies when the majority of the staff decide not to relocate and therefore become eligible for redundancy due to the distane involved, we can then spend lots of money on recruiting new staff and then more money on training them - absolutely brilliant, it must have been high flying financial genius that thought this decision - NOT !!!!
No wonder this country is in the mess it is in when things like this happen

To John of Soutra

I think you will find that these are all exceptional candidates leading this team. First class, top rate professionals who are delivering first class, front line, public sector change management for the betterment of all.............

Only joking. Why can't they cost out the move properly, they can state that it will be somewhere between 5 million and 7 million and I too foresee serious money being paid out in redundancy, just like the fiasco that was Historic Scotland. Has that saved money, have their expenditure, headcount and running costs and mot of all have thier customers noticed any difference to the organisation. What an effing waste of money.

And most importantly, what is this move going to actually achieve?

Wow! An announcement about a move to the East End of Glasgow, the week before a by-election in the same area!

Moving for 6 months doesn't seem very sensible...
