ALEX Salmond is facing a second parliamentary inquiry into claims SNP ministers have interfered in Scotland's planning rules.
Labour is to call for Holyrood's Local Government Committee – already investigating the SNP over Donald Trump's plans for a golf complex in Aberdeenshire – to look into the government's role in a housing and retail project in Aviemore, planned by SN
P donor Donald MacDonald.

It has emerged that Salmond and at least four other ministers intervened in the affair, prompting claims they handed McDonald unfair advantage. This is denied by the politicians.

Fresh information released last week revealed that MacDonald, who gave £30,000 to the SNP in 2007, wrote three times to Salmond last year about the problems he was having in the planning process. The Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) was objecting to the plans over fears it would cause flooding.

It has since emerged that ministers then intervened to ensure the process progressed quickly. Opponents claim that this amounted to pressure on SEPA to drop their objections.

Last night, the SNP was facing questions as new documents came to light. In a report written last November, and obtained under freedom of information legislation, Martin Boshoff, the senior hydrologist at SEPA's Dingwall office, discusses a letter from the Government.

"This letter instructed SEPA 'to deal with' the flood risk issue before close of play on Friday. Apparently, the financial benefactor of the projects threatened to pull out unless the flood risk issue is resolved asap," it declared.

In reply to Boshoff's report, SEPA manager Robert Brown urged him to remove all reference of MacDonald's threat.

"My only suggestion would be to delete the… sentence… as this sort of information should not form any written part of our reckoning and anything such as this may be subject to an FoI inquiry (yes, I'm getting paranoid!)"

Late last year, MacDonald told ministers that unless he got approval he would have to close his entire resort, which was losing £10,000 a day.

After contacting SNP ministers, the office of environment secretary Richard Lochhead urged SEPA in late November to give a quick verdict. The next week it gave conditional backing.

SEPA last night denied pressure from ministers. Asked why Brown ordered Boshoff's report to be changed, a spokeswoman said: "Flood risk assessment should be based on the technical merits of the submission."

But Labour finance spokesman Andy Kerr said: "It would appear that the only interest being directly served by ministerial intervention was the perceived commercial interest of the developer."

The SNP insists that Salmond did not see the letters from MacDonald and acted entirely within the rules.

Why Are 400,000 Leaving The UK Each Year ?,

After the Tory sleeze of the 1990's came the Labour sleeze of the naughty noughties.

Alex Salmond is having a terrific political honeymoon and seems to be doing a great deal right.

I really hope there is nothing in this alleged mess, and that we don't have a new round of current government dogged by sleeze allegations.

But somehow the old expression: "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss" comes to mind.

1 Why Are 400,000 Leaving The UK Each Year: - Don’t know – do tell.

It is certain that corruption is endemic in both the Tory and Labour Parties. They accept this as the norm, therefore is it reasonable for them to assume that the current Scottish government is also corrupt, even when there is not a shred of evidence to support the allegations.

If the Labour (and I believe the LD’s) wish to pursue their allegations, let them put their money where their mouth is. If they are correct then the culprits are obliged to resign. However if they cannot prove their case, then they RESIGN. That would seem to me to be fair and would stop these insupportable accusations.

Not a word in this attempt by this putrid rag, that forgets to mention that MSP's from other parties wrote to the SNP Government urging them to try resolve this issue that had been dragging on for six years. Yes Six Years believe it or not.

As I said find the facts out yourself, and then ask yourself why the Head of SEPA donated funds to Wendy's so called Leadership Election.

This English biased rag likes to throw muck in the hope that even just a little bit sticks. They are part of the media industry that supported parties like labour, who did Londons bidding by keeping the people uninformed. Their owners are in fact Tax Exiles who do not pay anything back towards the greater good of our Scotland.

Mmmm. I sense a push happening. I don't know whether or not the SNP politicians are any moe guilty of corruption than their other-party contemporaries but I do know that, once the media start this type of campaign, the road tends downhill.

Gird your loins, Snippers, it's going to be a bumpy ride.

If you mean the Barclay Twins, they're no longer the owners. After alienating the Scotsman's core readership during uber-unionist editor Andrew Neil's reign of error (sic), the creepy duo sold this once respected paper to Johnston Press.

Initially it seemed that the new owners would seek to reconnect with that mixed but moderate pro-devolution/independence core readership and steer clear of what quickly became the Barclays/Neil hallmark - blatant anti-SNP editorialising in 'news' articles. Fat chance. Want a laugh? Check this out:

"Johnston Press chief executive Tim Bowdler today assured staff at Scotsman Publications their new owners would not enforce any political line on the newspapers".

Below is an Email from Labour MSP Rhoda Grant to Richard Lochhead.

I wrote to you earlier today regarding an report that SEPA are
required to submit in order that the Cairngorm National Park
Board can consider this planning application at their meeting
on the 14th of December.

All other issues are being dealt with, or are in the process of
being dealt with, however the SEPA problem appears to be more difficult.

I would appreciate it if you would put some pressure on SEPA to
find a solution to this problem and find a way forward - if
they fail to do this the whole development is at risk.

A solution needs to be found to enable SEPA to recommend
approval with conditions. I understand this may not be totally
straight forward but I am sure that it is not beyond their ability.

Best wishes

Rhoda

You can go to the Scottish Government site and view the letters and the grilling of Mr Salmond.
It truly is a joke that planning permission for this development has been stymied for YEARS!
I would be most interested to know just how long it took for any Tesco to getplanning permission.

How about that ,Eddie? Want to investigate that ?
By the way , how are the circulation figures??
Dropping are they?

So Scottish Labour can not attack the Scottish Government over its polices but Perseus to attack the Scottish Government when it is supporting much needed jobs to rural Scotland? The leadership of Scottish Labour should resign immediately as they have shown that they are completely incompetent as a political entity at every level of politics in Scotland.

This lot really want to bring back the Baron old days of mass under employment and unemployment just to prop up their own political machine in west central Scotland and ultimately keep them in power at UK level.

The more prosperous Scotland becomes the more the people will turn their backs on Labour, this has to be the way forward.

Another non-story from the B&Q man, old news, old spin and even older hypocrisy, from Eddie B and his Nu Labour/Owld Torie paymasters, as has been said previously that Nu Labour/Owld Torie, denizen of all things fair, Rhoda Grant MSP was probably the person who instigated the 'Intervention'. When she wrote asking if 'pressure' could be brought to bear on SEPA.

It does seem that, even if a Parliamentary Committee, populated by a rag a muffin variety of Nu Lab/Owld Torie yes men, can't do it the first time, them keep going back 'til the Nu Labour/Owld Torie misinformation and innuendo actually become believed .

Eddie Barnes, is it no time ye goat yersel a 'propur joab'.

If it wasn't likely to lead to more public money being waster then this story about another Parliamentary probe into planning would be laughable.

Let me get this right: A Labour MSP (who we've never heard of) asks the Government to "do something" on the Aviemore development (which few of us had heard of) and now that the Government has done it, and apparently saved the development, and jobs, Labour now want an inquiry??

You couldn't make this kind of rubbish up.

Which is why it sits perfectly in this newspaper.

#27 What party was that MP and who was he, who raised the cash for honours row from, that led nowhere and cost the taxpayers millions. I never heard of some of the people in that.
A party that has made an occupation of sniping and nipping at the heals all the time of Labour cannot complain when they start doing it to them. They might once get somewhere.

Miss H,

32 I think you will find it was the Metropolitan Police who investigated the cash for honours row.

This is quite an interesting story - seemingly the Scottish Parliament has to agree to allow the Government to release all documents connected with this case. (That includes all the letters and emails they have received from Labour MSPs). I am not clear why the Parliament has to agree to that, but they do - and they haven't. However if the Local Government committee wants to pursue an inquiry I would think that the Government could release all documents to them and also to the press at the same time as committee hearings are in the public domain, aren't they?

Let's hope that is what happens.

#33 - Nicol Stephen also pointed out to Mr "GA" Salmond that by calling it in, in the manner employed, would delay the venture even further - and who was proved right? Mr Trump should have been properly advised to appeal like any other developer who faced initial rejection of a plan that perhaps will require some modification (even more delays forthcoming I suspect Donald so be warned).

The problem with Salmond is he is all froth and no substance - anything requiring some serious analysis and he resorts to name calling - just like his supporters.

May I point out that there was NOT enough proof to press charges.

That meant that the clever lawyers - which a lot of them were - made pretty sure that there was not!

In the clear? Not one teeny weeny bit.

And as for the subsequent revelations of the 'donations' deviously given, the seeds of suspicions are germinating into healthy plants of deceit!!!

Back to this - I assume Rhona Brankin et al have to explain their part in this business. And SEPA which is an amazingly dilatory agency in many ways and to meet planning meetings deadlines is a Yaaaaawwwwnnnnnnn.
