LOTHIANS SNP MSP Shirley-Anne Somerville has welcomed a drop in the number of people arrested for drink-driving.
Figures showed 93 motorists were arrested in a festive crackdown by Lothian and Borders Police on drink and drug-driving – about a third down on the 133 recorded during the festive period last year.

Ms Somerville said: "Drink-driving continues to be a major cause of deaths and injuries on the roads. This reduction in arrests is obviously great news for Edinburgh."

She said every arrest was one too many and repeated calls for the drink-driving limit to be reduced.

"Drink-driving continues to be a major cause of deaths and injuries on the roads."

No it is not. Drink-driving is a contributary factor to about 2% of deaths and injuries on roads. Let's not get carried away shall we?

It is a good thing that not many people are getting caught driving over the limit---which proves that the law as it exists and is enforced, works. Let's not do wnything stupid like lowering the limit so that the number caught increase dramatically, whilst they are perfectly safe to drive eh?
