LABOUR leader Wendy Alexander was in Edinburgh today to launch a series of family-friendly policies which aim to put children first.
The proposals include providing nursery spaces for all vulnerable two-year-olds and more practical support for parents, including a national telephone advice line.

Labour is also calling for a network of family learning centres, which would provid
e childcare, help mothers and fathers develop their parenting skills and also provide back to work training for parents.

And it wants more safe, supervised play areas for youngsters to enjoy.

Ms Alexander was at the Yard Adventure Playground, on Eyre Place Lane in Canonmills, to launch the document – called A Positive Start for Every Child.

And the Labour leader, herself the mother of young twins, said: "We all want the very best for our children. Scotland's future as a prosperous country depends on giving our youngest citizens the best possible start.

Ms Alexander said Labour was deliberately focusing on measures to help children in the first few years of their lives because "progress made in the first formative years will reap great benefits for Scotland's children and parents in the years to come".

The document also contains proposals for a charter of support for the parents of disabled youngsters.

If parents could get jobs at a decent living wage they could do all this and more for themselves.
London Labour have been told that they will miss their child poverty targets by miles.
Even if they met their target it is an absolute disgrace that there should still be a million children under the poverty level in this rich country.

Who said in 1997, "We will clean up politics...
The Conservatives are afflicted by sleaze and prosper from secret funds from foreign supporters. There is unquestionably a national crisis of confidence in our political system, to which Labour will respond in a measured and sensible way."???

Lies, lies and more lies.

I went to this story thinking it might be another Wendy story, "Scotland's last witch: Fraud or innocent victim of witch hunt?" Imagine my surprise when I found it was nothing to do with Wendy. Now that she's not really news, she's going to find it hard going to get the publicity she so craves.

Who said in 1997 "Remember, you are not here to enjoy the trappings of power, but to do a job and to uphold the highest standards in public life, we must be purer than pure" ????

Lies, lies and more lies.

Incidentally, An English Tory MP, perhaps not completely au fait with the Alexanders, told a Scottish friend that he almost felt sorry for Douglas when he saw how much trouble his mother Wendy was getting into in Scotland.

Has Wendy been charged yet?

Has simple Simon the spin parasite handed his/its notice in yet?

Lets all go out to work so we can pay for someone else to bring up our kids!

When something doesn't work by doing a certain thing in a certain way, the definition of "stupid" is - "I know, let's do it again". So a reprise of vulnerable 2-year-olds is the comeback strategy.

It's almost like saying that we know Wendy can't play at the same level as Alex, so let's put some stabilisers on her bike and she can have another shot at something safer. I mean it would hard to argue with someone who says that the poor the sick and the aged etc should be looked after. And that's where her baseline is now - no thought required and apparently even less of a platform to get Scotland on its feet economically and fiscally.

In any case why does every parent need access to a helpline? Again it's a case of Labour attempting to nanny everyone into being a dependent, vulnerable, source of taxation, so they can hang on to their jobs and get on with the real business of sleazy deals and troughing it. Just tell me I'm wrong!

MS .ALEXANDER HOW MANY KIDS HAS SHE RAISED

The reason that the Two Year old is vulnerable is most likely the fact that the child is being raised by a child. The policy of giving preference in social housing to pregnant teenagers encourages juvenile pregnancy. If your 14 years old and dont like living under your parents rules the best solution is to get yourself pregnant and win the council house lottery.
Perhaps if you made public housing unavailable to people under 21 then you would have less teenage parents and less vulnerable year olds.

Wendy, a "national telephone advice line"? Please don't insult our intelligence.
