Al Fayed: 'I'll move if Scots go it alone'

HARRODS owner Mohammed Al Fayed has said he would move to Scotland permanently if the country became independent.
Mr Al Fayed said his 65,000 acre Balnagown estate in Easter Ross, was "the most beautiful place in the Highlands".

And he told BBC Radio Scotland that when the country was "free and independent I am going to move there permanently".

The Harrods owner argued that the devolved Scottish Government had "no real power".

When asked how he felt about the Holyrood administration, Mr Al Fayed said: "That is all b******t. They just keep talking and taking no action.

"They are the zombies of the south. They have no real power to create the different type of society, looking after the needy, looking after the poor."

Mr Al Fayed also argued that Scotland had to have "the main share out of the oil revenues".

He said "God blessed you there with the oil" but added that the revenues were controlled by the south.

He also stated he was "trying to move on" following the conclusion of inquests into the death of his son Dodi and Diana, Princess of Wales.

A jury last month returned a verdict that the couple had been unlawfully killed.

Another good reason to vote no.

This man is barking. In the same radio interview he claims Scotland was discovered by Tutenkhamen's estranged sister, who encouraged her sons to wed lots of Scottish ladies. Hence we are all part Egyptian.

Totally agree. If Al Fayed moves here I will move out. One reason NOT to be independent.

Actually Keef there is some mileage in what he is saying about Akhenaten family and the theory is being studied by academics. There is some support in the wording of Arbroath declaration.
The story is that Akhenaten introduced monotheism to Egypt and was therefore despised by the Polytheistic priest hood. When he died the priests tried to destroy everything associated with him and his one God religion. Some of the family had to flee Egypt. This sister and her husband, who is thought to have been Hiber, landed first in Spain and later in Ireland and finally Scotland.
I think the Worthy Oriental Gentleman made reference to a recent book on the subject. Perhaps before discarding the theory out of hand you might consider obtaining a copy and read or study the evidence. It’s a fascinating and plausible story, but I have neither the time nor inclination to look at what may or may not have happened over three thousand years ago.

His name is Fayed and not the bogus 'Al Fayed'. I doubt if anyone familiar with the Fayed / Tiny Rowland shennanigans would wish the Cairo slum boy to take up permanent residence in Scotland.

Fayed may well be barking but he didn't come up with the story that the Egyptians made it to Scotland. This was a standard myth of the early (Irish and) Scottish kings. At the inauguration of a king their lineage was recited going back to Pharaoh's daughter Scota.

In the past magnates wanted to prove that their ancestry was better than anyone else's as it made it easier to become a 'king'. When necessary they made things up. Other times they tried to get links with royalty through marriages of sons and daughters. Nothing much changes.

Maybe Fayed thinks he might be able to buy a Scottish passport if Scotland was independent. I certainly hope not.

antifa,

Sanny - sorry, it's just nonsense, peddled by fraudsters to exploit the the gullible.

How would the writers of the Arbroath declaration know of something that happened 2,500 years previously?

And which "academics" are studying this, please?
11

Wee Keef,

19/05/2008 14:20:38
#7 I do not argue that there might be some truth at the back of this - there often is with loons. But it the terms in which MAF then stretches belief are laughable. In the interview he claimed that it was the Pharoah's sister who named the country Spotland and told her sons to go forth and multiply.

12

Wee Keef,

19/05/2008 14:21:40
Or Scotland!
13

GrahamR,

Edinburgh 19/05/2008 14:42:00
Fayed was just quoting from earlier 'sources'. This myth has been around for centuries.

For example:
"When Alexander III was inaugurated as king at Scone on 13 July 1249, the king's poet recited his genealogy right back to Guidheal Glas, son of the king of Athens, and Scota his wife, daughter of Pharaoh of Egypt."
[ from Davies, R.R., "Presidential Address: The Peoples of Britain and Ireland, 1100-1400: IV Language and Historical Mythology", Transactions of the Royal Historical Society, Sixth Series, Vol. 7, (1997), pp. 1-24 ]

Wait a minute you lot!!

I didn’t say I supported the Theory and I certainly do not support Fayed – libel laws prevent me from saying what I know or believe about that apology for a man.

As I stated this theory has been around for a long time and was the subject of a recent book, it was also circulating on the Web. Is it true? I don’t know, but obviously some people who have taken the time and trouble to study the matter, believe it so. I am not about to call them liars or otherwise decry their statements, unless I can prove my position.

Do I make myself clear? Lets not jump in with both feet unless we know what we’re talking about. I leave that to Idiots like AM2 et al.

Buckhaven & Methil welcome you. We hope you enjoy our hospitality.

Mr Al Fayed knows the truth about Prince Philip and the parasitic Royals. Perhaps he can have his main residence in Balmoral. I'd love to pee on the Queen's pillow.

I have no opinion,or interest in the man.My desire for independence for Scotland is not influenced by any individual. He is right about one thing,a regional parliament in Edinburgh, that does not control its income, can deliver less than an independent parliament that does.I also dispute the inference in the headline.Independence does not mean going it alone. It has more to do with joining the rest of the world.

Is Ailsa House still open in Ayrshire? That'd be the perfect place to keep this Egyptian nut.

As for his condescending "I'd move if Scotland was independent", why are you so sure an independent Scotland would have you, Mo?

I think the man is bitter to the core. Al Fayed's motivation to see a seperate Scottish state is most liekly fuelled by a desire to get revenge against the British establishment by helping to destroy it...
26

Brian Hill,

Edinburgh 20/05/2008 11:29:19
The obvious answer to that (if it hasn't already been stated) is put your money where your mouth is Mr Al Fayed and fund a rolling education campaign on the benefits of Scottish Independence.

That would ensure a YES vote in the Independence Referendum and make your dream of living in an Independent Scotland come true.

A small cheque will secure my services as a consultant for said campaign.

The reasons just keep mounting. Are there ANY downsides to Scots' independence?
