Mitchell goes back to jail after losing his appeal against his murder conviction. Very many of you thought that was the best place for him.
That's that then. I hope Jodi can rest in peace now.

JulesF

Indeed, the story should now be closed. I suspect that the family need closure in the matter.

Dood

Let's hope Jodi's family can now have some sort of closure. M
itchell should just hang himself. He is a monster and doesn't deserve to have a life.

azz, Dalkeith

I cannot judge whether he is guilty or not – but the trial should never have been held in Edinburgh. In that respect I agree with the defence team. Guilty or not, everyone has the right to a fair trial and this was not given considering all the publicity before the trial.

Ametyst,

So the publicity was just in and around Edinburgh then? Not in the news nationally or internationally? Don't you get it? Defence lawyers will use whatever argument is available in order to defend their clients. That is the nature of their task. In this context, throwing out the conviction because of excessive pre-trial publicity is barrel-scraping.

Ed_Izmir,Turkey

Luke Mitchell is an innocent man.

god's lovechild

Um, a point of order. .

Think you'll find that the law says someone is innocent until being found guilty in a court of law. He's been found guilty, so is no longer innocent.

SBW, Edinburgh

Anyhow, let's redirect the vitriol. There was little sympathy evident for Alexander Forbes, who had an Asbo slapped on him for being a pest in his neighbourhood.

Could the residents not put him in stocks and let people pelt him with rotten fruit and other horrible things?

alex paterson, at the moment in Sevilla

Ah, Spain, where it was once common to garrotte miscreants

He states that he doesn't care about the Asbo. You then get the do-gooding morons saying it will send a tough message out to the community and reassure them. What planet are these people living on?

Pen Fold, Here

Strange smell of patchouli and cue gods lovechild.

Why don't you lot just shut it. The guy clearly needs a cuddle.

god's lovechild

But the Summer of Love has long passed into autumn. This was a voice in the wilderness.

Never mind, he'll be away on his free adventure holiday soon. The decent people who are forced to live near him will get a break for seven days.

The Judge

An Asbo, or should we start calling them medals? Not fit to live in society. Drop him in the Atlantic with a survival kit and a raft.

Dorian, Edinburgh

Another example of out-of-control teenagers. When are the do-gooders going to realise that hard physical punishment needs to be restored.

Gorgie_Tony,Edinburgh

Something more uplifting to end. The nurse who suffered a heart attack in hospital and was saved by her colleagues.

Isn't it nice to read some good news? Well done everyone involved.

Sweet Pea, Peebles

Thank you Sweet Pea. Any relation to god's lovechild? Long live flower power.

The trial of Luke Mitchell made me ashamed to be a Scot and made me question the administration of justice in this country.

No evidence of any kind was brought forward against him except for irrelevant rubbish about scribbles on jotters, tattoos and bottles of urine. Previously, I had imagined that at least some evidence was required to convict someone of murder in a Scottish court. Obviously I was wrong.

None of that is evidence.
