If a new mode of transport is introduced, and 41 per cent of people say that yes, they will use it, is this positive or negative news for the project?

On the face of it, one might immediately assume that this corresponds to less than half of the p...

Wonder what happened to Shank's Pony. Apart from those confined to bed or wheelchair, 100% of the population use this primitive form of transport. Some even every day.

#2 WJohn,

You are of course talkink about the car.
Growth in rail travel has outsripped that of the private car over the past 10 years.

This is despite increased fares and problems with the massive program of works to correct the mispent decades of overinvestment in a chaotic free for all system.

Motorists are finding rail is by far the most pleasant mode of travel despite its access problems which pale into insignificance when compared to the congestion, danger, rapidly escalating costs pollution and excessive CO2 emmissions.

I suggest you get your head out of your exhaust, clear your brain of the fumes and acquaint yourself of the rapidly changing benefits of the two modes.

Rail will never get you direct to your door and many small towns and villages are unlikely to see rail services but where they do exist travellers are more and more using the train even if they have to use their car to get to the station.

I also sugesst you comsider that many car users would have to fight for their place on the congested roads to wok and would face competition for their workplace car park space if their train using colleagues started to come by road.

It Could be you!
