UNDER current plans, the North Sea will be supplying only 12 per cent of UK oil and gas needs by 2020. The rest will have to be imported from unstable and potentially unfriendly parts of the world.
However, according to the latest report from Oil & Gas UK, the industry trade association, the North Sea could provide as much 40 per cent of British oil and gas in 2020 – provided steps are taken to increase investment in exploration and production....

The article claims that the North Sea will be "supplying only 12 per cent of UK oil and gas needs by 2020". Scotland amounts to "only" 9% of the UK population so that would leave it with a healthy surplus of oil post-independence!

Nigeria and other countries have lots of oil it doesn't seem to be doing their people much good.
