THE appointment of Dave Anderson as Edinburgh's new head of city development looks set to herald a different approach to building prosperity and already the signs are that he is very much his own man who is unlikely to hang about waiting for marching orders from a group of ruling councillors who have yet to display any real sense of vision or direction.

Sorry? This man is employed by the council - they tell him what to do, surely? Otherwise I suspect his days getting a salary from them may be numbered.

More cooncil sycophancy from this paper then.

What new approach? And who inferred leadership was currently absent from his writing? Only the politically biased EEN I suspect.

I thought his witterings in the press were simply off the top of his head, a man without much vision apart from more of the same - more hotels and financial sector - and he might like to appreciate that tourists come to see history and heritage, not more hotels. No mention of the fact a chunk of the city is a World Heritage Site - does he know, or care?

He also bizarrely said that he felt the historic ridge and furrow roof of the Grade A Listed Waverley Station spoilt views of the castle - and wanted to see a building on top, or grass.

Well it's a top lit station, Mr Anderson, hence the glass roof, and silly plans for grass mooted before - and thrown out.

Learn to appreciate that there are more historic buildings in Edinburgh than just the castle, and that spoiling an important bistoric station won't be a simple matter to do. Network Rail has just spent £150 million of upgrading and repairing.

So far, not a good start.
