I WAS once threatened with prosecution under the Official Secrets Act. In 1986, the journalist Duncan Campbell discovered the existence of Project Zircon, a secret plan to launch a British spy satellite that would allow GCHQ to eavesdrop on Russian (and friendly European) telecoms.

Mr Kerevan makes the patronising and insulting remark "On the other hand, I can see no reason why immigration figures should be a state secret, even if it embarrasses the government – which has made a f****h of being "tough" on immigrants to placate the dark side of public opinion."
I, for one, along with I would suggest the majority of the UK population are highly concerned about immigration and its impact of demand for services and housing etc. and I strongly resent being categorised as being on "the dark side of public opinion". Genuine asylum seekers should be welcome, immigrants who come to fill specific jobs in the UK (jobs which cannot be filled locally) are fine too BUT what exactly is wrong with being concerned about illegal immigration in all its manifestations??
