Well you would not expect a differing view from the RAC.
Those who are asked to pay more are hardly likely to support any suggestion that they should do so.
However larger vehicles take up more room when parking and whilst on the road. When I park my car it fits into the parking space allocated such that vehicles on either side and I can open their doors wide enough to get in or get out.
Park alongside a 4x4 and the same claims cannot be made.

Now parking is a facility paid for by local ratepayers and motorists should be charged free market rates that reflect the size of their vehicles AND the demand for parking spaces.

This charge should be added to any CO2 tax.

The revenue produced could then be used to support the rates or to fund transport improvements particularly public transport.
