Bring back old hymns
I was delighted to see George K McMillan's comments (Letters, 9 May) on the Church of Scotland's falling membership. He has hit the nail on the head by giving "the 21st-century Church's banal, boring, brain-busting hymns" and their doleful tunes as a prime reason for the fall.
Oh, for some bold soul to rise up at the General Assembly and plead for the withdrawal of the new hymn book, CH4. It is doing untold damage to worship. Perhaps more serious is the mutilation of so many of our famous hymns.
Instead of being uplifted at the close of a service, one can leave with a feeling of depression and utter despair.
