The nationalisation of B&B, cruising for a moving, aircraft noise, and free city parking in the build-up to Christmas
Brushing aside the usual froth and frivolity of the online posts, we begin with some serious business: the world's economic crisis. Once you realised "B&B" meant more than "bed & breakfast", you were keen to forward your views.

Th
ere's no way B&B were any sort of systemic threat. Let 'em go into administration rather than punish taxpayers by bailing out yet another ne'er-do-well bank. If we're now the owners and 9000 people are behind on their mortgages then I say kick 'em out and sell the houses before they go down in price yet further. Then when there's money still to be paid because the sale price doesn't cover the loans, start pursuing their cars, other properties, wages or whatever to make sure we get what's due to us.
A Friend of Fernando Poo

Yes, Fernando's Friend, and let's put horse heads in their beds while we're at it.

Norway and France and many other countries do not have a banking crisis. Their governments don't go for boom-and-bust economic policies like Labour and Tories at Westminster.
Linda, Edinburgh

That Leeds Building Society with Arthur Daley would be more appropriate now than it was at the time.
Joe Smith, Moscow

The deal to nationalise B&B has caused big drops in the share prices of RBOS, Lloyds, HBoS and Santander. As part of this deal these banks will now have to find £16 billion to finance the nationalisation of B&B. The rumour in the markets is that Lloyds will walk away from the takeover of HBoS unless Gordon Brown minimises the costs to Lloyds of B&B being nationalised. This is all going pear shaped.

Or, in layman's terms ...

This is getting serious
Moat Street Jambo

So serious that house removal firms are having to come up with special offers, like cruises, to attract customers.

How much do removals cost if they are chucking in a cruise as an incentive ?
The Genuine Mario Antoinette

Caution. Remember the BA free flights with every washing machine fiasco in the 90s?
Cynicaltalk

I do. It was such a fiasco I ended up going to Corfu in a tumble dryer
The Genuine Mario Antoinette

Well, there's always flying, so long as you do it quietly. There have been calls for airports to operate at a lower noise level. To which you reply ...

When I travel by plane I would feel far happier for the pilot to take-off and land using methods according to his personal preference rather than try to modify things according to the whims of a few brain-dead politicians and moaners.
Alternative (High-Octane) Fuel Head

I lived in Kirkliston before the new runway was built and the noise was quite bad. Now the planes are much, much quieter and it is a bit of a no-brainer that aircraft cause noise and if you do not like the noise you do not buy a house next to an airport.
Arrow, edinburgh

I like the sound of planes taking off and landing; to me it represents progress. I'm calling for minimum levels of noise to be increased.
Foo

Still, Christmas is coming, and with it free evening and weekend parking in the city.

"Initiative"? Hardly! They're simply reinstating the periods of operation that were in place until around 2003.
Incandescent

Well done. You made light work of their PR flummery.
