Our top civil servant has been cruising around in posh limos while the police are stuck with electric scooters
It's been revealed that the Scottish Government's Permanent Secretary, Sir John Elvidge has clocked up more than 600 trips in less than 18 months in official limousines. Is this extravagant behaviour on? You lot don't seem to think so.
Hire him a bike for the short term. I'm sure, in a few years, that the billion or so quid we are chucking at the tramline will solve all his transport problems...
Skip McClendon
Well, that's one solution.
Sack the fat cat!

A
nd there's another.
What did everyone expect when they voted in an extra parliament? Extra benefits for the boys.

He's just another snout in the trough suffering from delusions of grandeur.

SIR JOHN ELVIDGE! SIR!!!!!! Can anyone tell me what this civil servant has done to create wealth, jobs, innovation etc for Scotland? Two years ago his team were criticised for being ineffective. No one was sacked. Two years ago his salary was between £150,000 & £155,000 per year. On your bike Elvidge.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy this dude his own personal rickshaw and assign him his very own minimum wage rickshaw cyclist to cover the journeys? ... or maybe just buy him some funky trainers or walking boots and an umbrella and raincoat?
THE BPRENTICE
I think he should get a proper job and stop expecting the taxpayer to finance his lifestyle. I have to pay my own transport costs, pay my own housing costs, etc etc. Perhaps he needs to get a limo to these places, otherwise they would mistake him for some homeless gargoyle !!
Russell339, Edinburgh
A homeless gargoyle? Oh dear. A gargoyle without a home would be like a policeman without a flashing blue light. It's just as well Lothian and Borders' finest have a light (and a siren) on their new environmentally friendly electric scooter.
Would they not have been better getting a push bike, then it could go through red traffic lights, turn right when not permitted, go up one way streets the wrong way and mount pavements and probably get there faster. They could have used the ones they bought to patrol The Meadows and aren't being used.
Grumpy
Given his "beat" covers less than 1sq mile is this really a good use of public money? I would have thought walking would have been the greenest option. L&B officers still walk don't they?
The Judge
I am however a keen biker and whilst I'm please to see some recognition given to 2 wheels instead of 4, I think the whole Green Agenda is a bit over rated.

"The Parliament continually aims to improve its environmental performance and this new scooter is a great example of the measures that can be taken to reduce our carbon footprint."And of course the electricity for charging the battery comes from where?
Unimpressed one
So basically, what you're all saying is two wheels bad, four wheels bad? Looks like it's time for our public servants to break out the walking boots.
