Travis singer Fran Healy on the free downloading of music
Fran Healy, singer in the Scottish rock group Travis, has said that he doesn't mind whether fans choose to illegally download his music for free.
Speaking at this year's Q Music Awards, Healy said: "There are two schools: people who will always buy music and people who will not buy music.
"Generally people who will not buy music are 12 years old and can't afford it.
"A record costs 76 pence to manufacture. If someone downloads that record they get it for nothing. Really, you're paying them 76 pence for doing the most important job there is in the business, which is word-of-mouth."
Travis recently retuurned with a new album (reviewed
here) and are currently on tour.
