N Korea: The government may fire a long-range ballistic missile toward Hawaii in early July, a Japanese newspaper said today, amid escalating tensions between the communist country and the United States over Pyongyang's nuclear programmes.
The missile is reported to be a Taepodong-2, with a range of 4,000 miles.

Somalia: Witnesses say heavy fighting overnight between government forces and Islamic insurgents has killed at least 17 civilians in the capital.

Whats the Problem, the Uk has been Firing Missiles towards Ireland for years of St.Kilda, to the best of my knowledge no Irishmen were hurt in any of the exercises.

mike - across the pond,

and so it escalates... 18/06/2009 14:35:50
North Korea's problem is a matter of perspective...

they look at a maps and the US is TINY... and look out the window and NK is HUGE...

were NK to actually DO something like launch a missile at Hawaii, Alaska, or the American west coast....

we'd turn South Korea into an island....

Night Worker,that's what he does.He's a "born again",and as such,has his enthusiasms.Really,though,probably a good guy to have a drink with,but stay away from a political discussion.(Born again Communist,that is).When in doubt,and to defuse an arguement,just say hello to Dennis.He's a good kid,and you hope the best for him.(How's that,Posty?)

I wonder what China is doing while we are watching North Korea. I hope the Americans dont take their spy satellites off the old dragon. North Korea dances for the world and China quietly moves forward behind the 'cover'.

#11, Youre right.
The Red nations really ought to be read the MAD doctrine all over again (Mutually Assured Destruction).
I am sure we have a generation of Chinese/Russian military people who have forgotten that if they ever try to attack America... they will not survive.

China is getting too stroppy for her own survival.

mike - across the pond,

ahhh posty.... 19/06/2009 20:00:30
I never said towards...

THATS what the article said...

towards will cause some sabres to rattle....

AT will throw a match on their pyre....

and the problem with towards vs AT... if NK rattles their sabres too much... THEN decide to launch TOWARDS... it may be hard to tell the difference...

right now there are UN sanctions agains NK...

sanctions that a NK cargo ship may be in violation of...

if the US were to enforce those sanctions, your loony cousins in NK may do something stupid like.... oh... I dont know... launch a missile 'towards' Hawaii... (Barrack Obama is FROM Hawaii)

after all the NK sabre rattling, whose to say if it was AT or just 'towards'....

anyway, the US would shoot the missile down... which I'm sure would ratchet up the NK rhetoric some more... or even give them 'cause' to do something even MORE stupid...

and THATS where it all starts to come unravelled... really fast...

so... heres the question... You chinese are signatores on the UN sanctions... and its right there in YOUR FRONT YARD... if you dont want the US to be "the world police".... WHY DONT YOU ENFORCE THE SANCTIONS YOU SIGNED ONTO????

I dont think I've met a single person EVER who would do ANYTHING but applaud...

ya know what , #14 mike, u are exactly right... the only thing i'd like to add to that is that United States should just bomb North Korea's launch sites, (especially if they KNOW that they are going to use it again soon for war!), and we wouldnt have to worry about it! at least on that note of things ( bombs coming airborne with no plane/s )
