MALCOLM ARNOLD

Concerto For Two Pianos/ Concerto For Piano Duet

****

Naxos 8.570531, £12.99
Malcolm Arnold's Overture: Beckus The Dandipratt has seen a revival in recent years. Written when he was only 21 and recovering after a wartime breakdown, it was his first work to be recorded and it brought him instant acclaim.

But it's the two piano works, featuring Phillip Dyson and Kevin Sargent with the Ulster Orchestra, that make this recording stand out. The Concerto For Two Pianos contains some of Arnold's most beautiful themes, while his Concerto For Piano Duet provides more romantic melodies, ending in a rumba.
