THE cost of the average house in Scotland climbed by more than £4,700 in April, new government figures show.
The UK Communities and Local Government (CLG) department yesterday said the April rebound narrowed the year-on-year decline in Scottish house prices to 8.6 per cent, compared with a fall of 9.8 per cent in the year to March.
The average UK house price fell by 13 per cent in the 12 months to April, with a 1.1 per cent rise between March and April arresting the year-on-year slide.
First-time buyers across the UK paid an average £135,416 in April, down from £162,061 in the same month in 2008 and £32,132 less than at the market peak in mid 2007.
The rise in prices between March and April was driven by demand for terraced houses (up 2 per cent) and semi-detached houses, according to CLG.
