DRIVERS talking on a hands-free mobile phone are more distracted than when speaking to a passenger, according to a government-commissioned report.
Those using hands-free mobiles were also more distracted than those adjusting in-car controls like the heater and the radio, the Transport Research Laboratory concluded.

The report said driving and talking was "cognitively demanding".

NOTHING is more distracting than a (in my case) passenger-seat driver! I nearly had a biker the other day, and I was actually watching the road! (Apologies, if you're reading this and had a narrow escape at Churchhill on Tuesday!)

Hate to say it, but if you watch women in a car, you'll see they can't seem to hold a conversation without turning to look at one another.
Now that IS dangerous!

#4. I feel a ban coming on. No talking in a car while it's in motion for fear of distracting the driver.

I can remember something even more distracting then talking, but we were younger then...

Something I find MORE distracting are 'trafficators' now incorporated in the door mirrors - as much because they are at eye level - or very close - as they are invariably used at the last minute! IF AT ALL.

Get rid of mobile phones while driving and dining. Life was better when people just couldn't reach you when you were OUT. But, a ban is not necessary. We have too many bans. I think people should just make up their own minds. Personally, I keep my mobile phone OFF unless I want to make a call.
