HEALTH experts today urged young people to be immunised against mumps after more than 1500 people in the Lothians were struck down with the potentially deadly virus last year.
Public health expert Dr Dermot Gorman of NHS Lothian said: "In 2005, there were five outbreaks of mumps in Lothian associated with places such as universities, schools, or military barracks and, overall, most cases were in the 15-24 age group.

"NHS Lothian strongly recommends the MMR vaccination for protection against mumps, measles and rubella, for all young people up to the age of 25."

Well its a welcomed change from asking new mums to get baby mmr vaccine when no matter what health authorities say! were not going to believe them!! that it carries no risks! for a new born!
If i was in this age group(15-24) i would have the choice to get the "urged vaccine" which at this age group would have little risks as when in the baby group
And go get mmr! knowing my mother(parents) were just protecting me from the lies or mistruths the "health board"(when just "cost cutting") told them! and did not have any choice except "no protection" just because you cant be protected unless you pay for separate jabs!
Unless as a parent you play "Russian Roulette" with your new baby! thats what the NHS health board ask us to do
"WOULD YOU DO THAT"? well tell you what? "I WONT"!! when and if my "wife hasababy"
Yet again if the "idiot health board" could see past their "THICK BRICK WALL" they would give all new mothers the choice on the NHS off separate jabs for their "baby" then i would not at 15-24yrs have to "even think" about MMR cause my mother would of got it done when i was a baby if she had been given a choice! but "Oh NO" the money spent on giving mothers a choice has been taken away
So now "BLEET BLEET"(NHS HEALTH BOARD) we will spend it anyway when the "baby is an adult"
NOW THAT MAKES SENSE DONT IT!!!!
