MICHAEL Barrymore has pulled out of his West End comeback show, claiming the pressure of the last two years has taken its toll.
Moments before he was due on stage on Thursday, the comedian told producers that he could no longer continue his stand-up routine after a series of critical reviews and poor ticket sales.
Barrymore, 51, had hoped to relaunch his career following the death of Stuart Lubbock, whose body was found floating in the entertainer’s swimming pool in 2001.
Refunds will be given for those tickets already purchased for the six-week run, which began on Monday.
In a statement, Barrymore said: "I would like to sincerely apologise to everyone who has bought tickets, but the pressure of the last two years has taken its toll. I would also like to thank my fans, friends and AA [Alcoholics Anonymous] who have all helped me remain sober and given me great support."
