MEADOWBANK'S local community council has criticised plans to scale down the stadium and sell most of the site for housing.
Craigentinny and Meadowbank community councillors say local people will suffer through the loss of two thirds of their facilities.
They say Edinburgh City Council has failed to take their views into account or carry out enough consultation.
Ch
airman Giacomo Modica called on the council to listen to the public at a meeting this week.
He said: "Edinburgh City Council's decision is completely at odds with what the public want. It will mean the loss of almost two thirds of the existing facilities. We need more facilities, not less."
"No community council has been contacted. Our last involvement was the series of summer workshops which produced a report that reflected only the chairman's view, not the view of the vast majority of members."
He praised the local Lib Dem councillor Gary Peacock for voting against his party, and he called on other councillors to reconsider their decision. The meeting also gave its full backing to the Save Meadowbank campaign.
"We welcome this support and the many positive suggestions that were made at the meeting," said campaign spokesman Aaron Lowe.
