A FORMER councillor today said Meadowbank Stadium should be saved from demolition because of the site's history.
Phyllis Herriot served 15 years on Edinburgh Council and also Lothian Region Council from 1967.

The stadium is due to be demolished under council plans and replaced with new facilities on site, with around a third of the land sold off for housing.

Ms Herriot said: "Nobody blinks an eye at the billions being spent on the Olympic Games in London or the £500 million being spent on trams for Edinburgh. We only need a fraction of that to bring our stadium up to standard.

"Glenogle Baths was recently given millions because it dates back to Victorian times. Jock's Lodge can be traced back to Roman times. The whole area around Meadowbank is steeped in history. It deserves similar treatment."

Why is a Councillor who served 26 years ago getting a platform for a hopeless point like this?
Victorian times, Roman times...the Motown era???
