While I take no issue with much of your report "Why farms must change to save the planet", I was dismayed with the initial negative statement that "farming is to blame for 25 per cent of greenhouse gas emissions".
The use of the term "blame" is misleading in that it reflects neither the detail nor the general tone of the Climate Change and Scottish Agriculture report. Indeed, the report states that there have recently been "significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture". It points out that "climate change presents major challenges for Scotland's land using industries", but adds that "a well planned and co-ordinated adaptation response will minimise the negative impacts and highlight potential opportunities".

Overall, the message I got from reading the report was that Scottish agriculture is well placed to respond to these challenges, as it always has done. The issues surrounding our response to climate change are complex and the role of the media should be to add clarity, not confusion.

Below is the breakdown of so called renewable derived electricity generated. It is worth noting that most of the output is generated by burning something; about 1/5 is from the wind with the remainder from large and small hydro.

Today, 22.1TWh is generated by RES

4.1TWh from large hydro
0.3TWh from small hydro
4.2TWh from wind
9.9TWh from biomass & wastes
3.6 TWh from CHP / Others

Clearly, it would be better generating electricity without burning methane and biomass on the basis of dodgy science that states that it is ok to burn a tree because it sequestrated so much carbon whilst growing. Utter rubbish, of course, as is the attack on farming. What about the huge herds of bison that roamed North America and the vast heards of wildebeast that roam in Africa.
