Justice for brave Gurkhas
The British Government's treatment of the magnificent Gurkhas, who fought so valiantly and loyally for our cause in the Second World War and since, leaves me, a British citizen who served in Burma in 1943-45, deeply ashamed of my country (your report, 28 June).
The Gurkha soldiers receive a miserable pension, a mere fraction of what ours receive, and should any of them wish to settle in this country barriers are put in their way. They appear to be good enough to die for us, as thousands have done, but are not worthy of living among us. It beggars belief.
Are there no strong, determined voices at Westminster, people with compassion and sense of justice, or are they only interested in their own pay?
