Move over St Andrew, Scotland deserves a bit more girl power

AM I the only Scot who doesn't want a holiday on St Andrew's Day? Newspapers and politicians are aghast that only 22 per cent of Scots could name the day Scotland's patron saint is celebrated.
Actually this percentage makes sense - it roughly coincides with the proportion of Scots who regularly attend Christian worship. For this minority, saints may be accorded automatic status. For the rest of us, St Andrew is a big unknown.

My choice is the Blessed Queen Margaret who in the 11th,century married- brave woman- Calum Ceann Mor (Malcolm Kenmore the third).

She was very beautiful, extremely pious, very intelligent a strong character and changed Scotland in every way for the better, including the introduction of breacan ("tartan")

Margaret was a Saxon Princess fleeing from the Norman invasion. In my opinion one of the few good things England gave us.
